S/O Cracker Barrel...who has been to one?

It amazes me that so many people have never even heard of it.  Is it only a southern thing?

I adore their Momma's Pancake Breakfast.  :::::drool:::::

But I really dislike the fact that they no longer give you the basket of biscuits and cornbread when you first sit down.  Too many people were coming in and ordering just water and eating the free bread!

  • I've been a few times.  The one around us is always super crowded.  Not sure if it's because it's right off of the highway.  I like their store, they have cool knick knacks.
  • Dude, people don't have CBs???

I have one within literal walking distance of my house.  LOVE it.  Yumm!

A friend in California had never even heard of it before.  Then again, he'd never heard of Winn Dixie or Piggly Wiggly, either.  LOL.

  • They are here in WI. I have only been once, and I hate to say that I didn't love it.

  • There aren't any in MD  = (  but we used to go to them in TX and they have a few in PA. Love Cracker Barrell. The chicken fried chicken breast with greens and french fries, Yum!
  • We have one up here in MI...it is full of old people, but we have one!

    lmao

  • There are a couple around here, but I've never been to one before.
  • I love the store and the food.  When I was pregnant with DD I went there all the time and got the french toast (on sourdough bread)....it is to die for.

  • I can't imagine life without Cracker Barrel! Where would I go to get good comfort food without having to cook it myself?

  • ::raises hand::

Once I drank so much iced tea at one the server gave me some in a to-go cup.  Loved her.  Best customer service ever at a restaurant!  Thank you TN.

And they are in the Northeast now so no one has an excuse.

  • I pass two of them on my way to work, but have never been.
  • We're in South Jersey and we have one less than a mile from our house...mmmm, hashbrown casserole and grilled chicken tenderloin platter!!!

I did not know that was the reason for the lack of carbs when you sat down! I'm sure if you ordered and then asked them they'd bring it before your meal, though.

  • We have them in PA.  I'm not a fan.  But I'm not really a fan of most chain restaurants.
  • We have a couple around here and while I was super excited to try it b/c of what I'd heard.  I have to say it was pretty meh, not really impressed, rather go to a local diner.

  • yes it's a southern thing.  i remember when we'd visit my grandparents in VA (from NM) it was a novelty thing to go to a cracker barrel.  i haven't been to one in a long time, but the food is not exactly amazing.  it's okay for breakfast.

We have one in town . . . I LOVE their breakfast. We still get biscuits and cornbread, but it is after you order.

  • Cracker Barrel is amazing.  Hashbrown casserole!  Oh and their apple butter... ::drool::

I know they have them in IL.  We go to theirs with MIL when we are in town.

  • its all stuff that i grew up on, so its not such a novelty to me. and it really wasn't that good to begin with. ours shut down, but there is one near me.
  • LOVE THEM.  Their biscuits, I could just eat them and eat them.

  • i dont really like CB...but i think its because i ate there when i was hung over. and well, i tasted it twice.

    Ick!

  • I've been. I was going to add the little green puke face, but that seemed excessive. I just don't like CB.

eta: lol at the little green puke face in MB's reply. I saw that after I posted.

    Ick!

Twice tasted CB isn't good at all.  LOL.

  • I've never been to a CB. There's one about 30 minutes away from me, but there are plenty of other restaurants I'd drive that far to go to first.

  • I love me some Cracker Barrel! I've been craving it for a while now, I may need to make a trip while DH Is OOT in a few days.
  • I've only been twice. I'm not a fan of southern comfort food to be honest
  • It's a restaurant?  I thought it was a store.  Dummy me

  • I've been there numerous times. I don't get what's so great about it. I generally get annoyed when I eat there, because it's full of hilljack rednecks. (I'm not saying they all are, but the one here always is. Ugh.)
  • We have them here in CT.

They're ok.  The quality of their breakfasts have gone down in the past 5 years.

  • Okay, so all this talk made me go and look at the menu.

What the heck is a hashbrown casserole?

  • They have good pancakes and bacon, but I've never had any other food there.

I really love the toy section in the store part though.

  • I've never even heard of it Smile  Is it like Denny's or something?
  • I looooooove Cracker Barrel! Especially the gift shop. I can't wait until I'm an old lady so I can buy all of that gaudy junk shame-free!

  • They have several here in St. Louis.  I like it a lot but I wouldn't say it is my favorite comfort food.  I liked it a lot and I mean a lot when I was younger.  In fact, that was where I wanted to always go for my birthday.

My favorite thing on the menu is the grilled chicken tenderloin with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans.  Oh and how can I forget their cornbread.  I do love their cornbread because it isn't very sweet like Jiffy.

  • I love the barrel as we call it.

I like to roam around and get old fashioned candy in their store.
