3rd Trimester

Question regarding maternity wear

I'm only 10 weeks. But Old Navy has got some steals of deals right now on some items that I'm thinking of ordering to have for the summer. My question is for you ladies here in the 3rd tri with the experience. I guess I might just be thinking too hard about it. But say I order a medium sized maternity top, is that top going to go all the way through my pregnancy? Or will I have to buy larger tops? I know it also depends on each person and how their belly goes. But do you get what I'm asking anyways?

  • I typically wear a large. Most of my maternity tops are a large and are good at this point. I have a few xl that I wanted bigger. Pants have been the issue with me...

BTW...ON had yoga pants that have a fold over waist. I highly reccomend getting a few. They have been great and you can fold the waist up to make them more comfortable.

     Good luck!

  • I was a medium before I got pregnant and a size 8 in pants/skirts.  I pretty much bought my pre-pregnancy sizes in everything and for the most part they still fit.  I'm having a little trouble with a couple of tops, but mostly...mediums are still fine.

  • Now that I've dropped a lot of my tops are too short. I would suggest getting longer tops and tank tops for layering! I wear a tank top under everything.

  • I think it is hard to say.  I normally wear smalls in tops.  With ds, I wore them in the beginning but then needed mediums in some things at the end.   The pants were the biggest difference for me.  By 30wks with ds I could no longer fit my thighs into the pants I had bought at 15wks.  I gained so much weight in my butt and thighs.  This time hasn't been the same though. I am having no problem fitting in the same pants that I did early in pregnancy.
  • you should be good since Matwear is designed for growing bellies. Lots of Empire waists and things of the sort that will accomodate you going forward.

Personally, I really like it when my shirt is a little tight across my belly, because I just LOVE my belly so much!

In terms of pants, I'm wearing one size down from my pre-pg size (because of 1st tri m/s and losing 21.5lbs total until 21wks) and am VERY thankful for the full belly insert!

  • I got my true size (small) and everythig still fits, some even slightly big and I have put on a lot of weight......
  • I bought mediums from Old Navy and have recently purchased some large tops because the medium ones are getting too short...with that said- I am very large breasted and I think that if I were smaller up top the shirts would still be long enough...

I have been able to wear the same size pants so far.

    Have fun shopping :)

  • I wore a medium pre-pregnancy, and bought medium sized maternity tops. They still fit me now!

  • It depends how much you buy, too.  I bought about 6 nice maternity tops and a couple of t-shirts/tanks to sleep in.  The tops are all really worn in and looking ten years old because I have to wear and wash them so often.  I've got another month to go and I'm so sick of wearing the same thing over and over.  I don't know if you'll feel that way, but you may want to buy some now and save some money to buy some more when you start your 3rd tri so you can still feel good about how you look.
  • All of my ON tops are my pre-preg size (small). Just recently most of my tops have started to get too short, but if I had bigger tops, they would probably be too big for me in other areas. I usually wear a tank top under my shirts, and that helps a lot.

The only ON pants I have are the maternity yoga pants. Highly recommended!

  • I bought the size I wore pre-pregnancy in maternity clothes and they all still fit.

  • All of my maternity shirts are xs/s and most of them still fit.  Like PP said though, since my belly has dropped lower some of my long-sleeved t-shirts are on the shorter side.  All of my maternity pants (and non-maternity sweatpants) still fit just fine.

  • I had to bought medium shirts for my second trimester but then ended up having to buy some in large for the third.  I have a long torso and when my belly really started to expand my several of my shirts got really short.  It was to the point that layering maternity tanks under them wasn't even helping much.  This is just my experience, though.  I have a problem with shirt length when I'm not pregnant.

  • I was a medium PP, and everything I got from Old Navy was a size medium seems like it will fit for the next 10 weeks. From other stores, it varied based on the fit. I got some mediums and some larges, but it seems like all of those will continue to fit as well, other than some of the Gap tops, which are almost not long enough for me and wouldn't be even in a bigger size.

  • Just a caution:  DON'T BUY TOO MUCH TOO SOON!

I've never gotten very big.  The maternity tops I bought early, even in my size, are still huge on me--more like tents than cute pregnancy shirts.  I found buying up a size in regular shirts was MUCH better for me, along with a few long maternity tanks.  Same thing for dresses, and even pants.

I have all this cute maternity stuff that I never got to wear!  Don't be like me--buy just the stuff you need when you need it.  I got enticed in by the sales and ended up with stuff that just never worked, even though it "should" have been the right size.

  • I was a small/med pp and got med in maternity wear and am still wearing them.  In fact, I've ended up going and getting some smalls as well because I find the tighter clothes look better.  But when I was so sick and sore in the beginning, I preferred the loose clothes.

I bought stuff really early on from a good old navy sale and am glad I did.  Here are my fav item's that I wear LOTS still....yoga pants-you will want the capri or shorts length for summer, but get one pair of pants as well for the days you don't shave.  PJ/lounge pants. I love these!  Buy extra's if you don't wear panties because your discharge gets really heavy and you'll want to change.  Basic t's are great as well as a few t's w/ designs.

    Good Luck and happy shopping!
