Diaper rash from diarrhea

Any tips for dealing with a bad diaper rash from diarrhea? DD is taking antibiotics for ear infection #2 and is having really bad diaper rash. We are changing her every hour and putting on gobs of desitin but she has never had diarrhea from antibiotics before so we aren't sure if we should be doing more. Thanks!

    you could  use vaseline on her skin and then desitin too. the vaseline would create a barrier so the skin wouldn't get as irritated.

    Changing every hour is good. I'd try a different diaper cream such as Bordeaux's(sp) Butt Paste. Good stuff!!!

    ds has had this yesterday. the nurse @ children's mercy told us to change him frequently, and instead of using wipes because they leave residue, to try to use paper towels wetted with water. also, she said to soak him in a bath with a few tablespoons of baking soda for 20 minutes, and let him "air dry" between poops for 20 minutes by laying him down on a waterproof surface (easier to clean if he poops/pees.) and then put lotramin cream over the affected area and desitin on top of that. she said to also be sure it's not any new foods that are causing him to have diarrhea, and feed him more starchy foods, like cereal, to bulk up his stool. hope this helps

    My mom swears by cornstarch. DD had a horrible diaper rash from the same thing and it worked wonders. Just put it right on the area and a little extra in the diaper. It's super soft too. We now use Johnson and Johnson Baby Powder Pure Corn Starch in her night time diapers.

    We have used cream for athletes foot or a yeast infection for diaper rash when DS was on antibiotics before. The pharmacist recommended it when she saw the meds we were getting. I'm not sure but I think it's different from diaper rash.

    Edit: It worked very well.

    Have you tried Butt Paste? We are dealing with the same thing right now, her poor skin is chapped from the acidity in the diarrhea. Butt Paste actually sticks even if she pees.
