3rd Trimester

For those who have a that DH travels....

At what point will your DH stop traveling?  Did your doctor give you a timeframe where it is not recommended that spouses travel and leave you behind?

Re: For those who have a that DH travels....

  • My DH doesn't travel, but drives 1.5 hours each way for work.  He will continue to do this throughout.  A little different - but with a 12 hour shift and 3 hours of driving he can't be here at the drop of a hat either.

  • My DH works in North Dakota (we live in Washington) for 2 to 6 weeks at a time, then home for 2 to 4 weeks. I think he was planning on coming home two weeks before EDD. We figured that the closer he came to LO's arrival, the longer he'll be able to stay afterwards.

  • Thursday will be Dh's last day of travel. it is just a overnight trip and MIL will be here if I need anything..I am having a C/s so It is important that if stuff starts happening that I go to the hospital and Dh might not be here..He will only be 5 hours away so not bad...
  • DH is across country or out of the country for two weeks out of every month. I told him that I wanted him to stop traveling when I reached 37 weeks but his boss has been really cool and has already stopped his travel. Unless there is a huge emergency DH is on the ground until two weeks after the baby comes.
  • With my DD, my DD was  supposed to go on a trip to Alaska ... like 4 weeks before my due date.  Luckily, at my appt just before that, she told him not to go or he'd miss the baby!  She was born on a Sat at 36w1d and he was scheduled to leave on that Monday!

He still travels alot for work and we're just going to play it by ear.  He is supposed to be gone for a week about 5 weeks before my due date... we'll just see what the doc says before that.

  • My DH's situation is probably different from most.  The company he works for is in Hartford and we live in Dallas.  He travels to CT usually every 2-3 weeks for 4 days at a time and the rest of the time he works out of the house.  We decided he wouldn't travel a month before LO is due and would stay home a full month after the baby came.  Our Dr didn't say anything to us, since like I said, he has a pretty good work situation but if he didn't have such great flexibility, we might have discussed with our OB.  HTH!

ETA: There are only 2 flights between DFW and the Hartford airport per day so while I would have been comfortable having DH travel 2-3 weeks prior to our due date if there was a flight available every hour, neither of us wanted me to go into labor early and him miss the birth because he couldn't get on a flight for 12 hours.

  • My DH has a conference to go to 2 weeks before my EDD.  We are waiting to see how the next 2 appointments go before he books his ticket.  It isn't that far away - 1 hr flight + 1 hr drive - and it is important for his work for him to be there, but he is also concerned about leaving me and a toddler at 38 w for 3 days.  We'll see how I am feeling.  I am a scheduled c/s due to a VBAC ban here, so that complicates things.

  • My DH goes away overnight or for the week sometimes and I was the one who told him to tell his boss to stop sending him about a month before.  So he's going to stop after this week.  I just feel more comfortable about it, knowing he'll be in the area if anything happens.  I didn't really go over it with my dr.  Just kind of decided on my own.

  • My DH lives in Vegas and I live in Denver but 3 days before my due date he will move here.
  • My DH will come home from NewFoundland on May 6th and I'm due the 12th...
  • WOW no my DH isnt as far as some of u girls its just that he works an hour away and the hospital is an hour away from me and then a 1/2 an hour from where he works. sort of a square round about way......he jokes that I will call him from the hospital and he will take a couple of hours off and come over!! LoL.........so funny!! My biggest concern is my mom making it here in time...she is flying from Nebraska and we are in North Dakota! Good LUck to all you moms that are due super soon
  • My DH travels. In fact he left this morning to head to NC for the rest of the week. I don't see why the doc would give a recommendation for him not to travel, but they asked me to stay within an hours drive of the hospital from 36 weeks on. DH has talked with his employers about not wanting to travel from that time for about two months, but he's got a job to do, and if they need him they need him. It wouldn't be easy, but I feel fortunate that he is here most of the time, and not in the military and overseas like some of my friends dealt with!!

  • My DH doesn't travel regularly, but he is on his last business trip before LO arrives right now. He told his boss he wouldn't be going anywhere after I hit 34 weeks.

  • My DH is attending a two day conference about 6 hours away April 21st and 22nd. I'm already praying that something doesn't happen during that time. I'm not due until May 3rd, but you just never know. If LO is anything like his/her father, s/he won't be arriving until at least May 10th!
