another s/o...how do you clean your smooth top?

like what exact product and is it just a std. razor blade? or something specific for this surface?  DH has to really clean it every few days.....I don't have enough umphf in my rear to make a dent in it.  And it still hasn't looked clean since it was delivered.

  • My mom uses Bar Keepers Friend but you should test it in a little area first.  If it can take it, it's wonderful to clean with!

Ditto this. And S.B. makes a cooktop cleaner thing that's a handle with disposable cleaning pads that seem to do well.  I still hate mine, though.

  • Baking soda and water is a cheap way to to it.

I used a smooth top stove cleaner I found at the supermarket.

I use the cooktop cleaner with the disposable scouring pads too.

ETA:  I don't use it, but I think you can get the blades at Home Depot or somewhere similar.  It is just a standard razor blade, but there is a handle you need that holds it.

Thanks...what does S.B. stand for?  I can't think this late.

  • OK - where the FRICK do you buy the Scotch Brite (SB) pad thingy- I've been looking all over for it!
  • scotch brite?

I use a cook top cleaner with a cook top cleaning pad and a regular razor blade with no handle- Its a pain in the ash.

  • I scrub the heck out of it with a scrubbie sponge, baking soda and all-purpose spray cleaner. Then I take a razor blade and scrap off all of the burnt stuff and any other crap on it. Afterwards I rinse it well to get rid of all of the baking soda, and then finally use glass cleaner on it to get rid of any streaks. I don't know about yours, but our stove is black and it shows every single piece of lint, dust, fingerprints, grease smears and streaks.

Keeping it clean is a pain in the butt! I do the whole deep cleaning routine t least a couple times a week and the rest of the time it just looks nasty but I don't have the energy to clean it THAT thoroughly after every single meal.

  • We would never use a razor blade. It's too harsh for the surface.

We use Cerama Bryte cleaner and either paper towel or the sponge that came with the stove.

ETA: We tend to boil water over quite often, and we've always been able to get the stains off using this.
