i love the name sadie jane but my husband thinks it sounds like a dogs name, but his name won for our son so i might get my way if we have a girl next :)

My grandma's best friend has two doxies named Nicky Wayne and Sadie Jane.

Yep. If I heard it I would think of a dog too.

  • I really liked the name Stella for a girl, but unfortunately I knew a young mother who was hooked on drugs and she sold her children to the fathers' parents for drug money. Sad story, but it forever made me change my mind about the name.

I'm happy with the names I've chosen...

    Girl- Paisleigh

    Boy- Jackson

  • My second daughter was going to be named Zivala Snow. I feel in love with that name..but DH hated it. So I made him choose her name. She turned out to be August Mae, Augee, after his great-grandfather, Augastine and Mae after his mother Mae.
  • My husband and I both like the name Jackson.  Our last name is often times mispronounced so during this name discussion my husband says Jack with our last name (the way everyone pronounces it) and lets just say it sounds an awful lot like "jack-off".  Pretty sure that ruined any chances of using the name Jack.
  • Catherine/Kathryn. It's my MIL's name and we don't have a good relationship. It used to be one of my favorite girl names too. If not my favorite girl name...

  • I love the name Brielle but DH hated it! I also wanted Angelina for the longest time but given the overuse of the name in the media thanks to Ms. Jolie, I've moved on!
  • I love the names Morgan (for a girl) and Cade (for a boy).  However my husband has a cousins named Morgan and Cade.
  • Cooper: used it for our puppy, now we joke a great name was wasted on a dog. Anyway, turns out we are having a girl.

Along the same lines Oliver (in-laws dog)

  • Fallyn & Nicolette - pretty names, but same names of really mean girls at my high school and college.

  • anything ending in "son"... my last name is allison, his last name is jackson....  so we'll rule out jackson, mason, morrison  and even some that just end with that "on/en/an" sound - cameron, camden, evan...

  • Sonali & Arya  (we're using Indian names because DH is Indian)  LOVE the names but they are our niece's and DH's cousin's daughter's.

  • Lily. I LOVED this name, but DH couldn't pronounce it well. He said the 'L's were too much work.
  • Mia & Carter...DH has a large family and two of his cousins just had babies and used those names...oh well...

  • My husband likes the name Griffen, until I told him that was an ex who happend to be the same ex my entire family wanted me to marry... so that name was marked off our list too.
  • I like Lucy but DHs family already has a couple Lucys.  Also I LOVE Nicholas (Nick) but our last name is Carter and DH won't name his son Nick Carter (Yes...I was an avid boybander in my teen years, but it has no correlation).
  • I really want the name Isabella and have for years, but I can't stand overly popular names. When I became attached to the name it was pretty low on the list, but thanks to Twlight (grr) it is right up there at #2 under Emma (my Grandmother's name/second choice).  Life sucks. lol
  • Loved the name Hunter for DS but doesn't go with our last name (Green).
  • i was talking to sil a few months ago about baby names. they have two boys and don't know if they are going to have any more kids or not. she told me she loved the name aubrey or audrey. i said i loved the name addison. she started throwing a hissy fit because if they have any more kids and have a girl, they want to name her madison and so i can't use madison. so according to her, i can't use it. but if we ever get pregnant and have a girl, she will be addison whether sil likes it or not.

i also was getting flack from dh's family over the middle name i like for a girl. my grandma's name is rosemary. my aunt's name is rosemary. so we were (are) planning on using rose as a middle name. rose is the name of dh's aunt who was murdered and his family feels cousin (dh's aunt's daughter) should be the only one allowed to use rose as a name. again, tough luck people :)

  • I loved the names Sophia and Paisley. Ever since I can remember, I wanted to name my daughters Sophia and Paisley. Until I met my DH... He has two ex-girl friends called Sophia, his gym teacher in High School was called Paisley (he was a man!), and this girl he had a HUGE crush on was also called Paisley. The worse part is that the second Paisley, was his crush right before we met and to this day I still believe that he still liked her when we were dating...

There went my hopes on Sophia and Paisley haha

  • Benjamin -- DH hated it so it was off our list and my sister used it for her son

    Madeleine -- DH just wasn't a fan
    Kacee -- I wasn't a fan
Erin -- just because we probably won't have other kids
    Avery -- ditto above
    Dash -- DH again wasn't a fan

  • I really wanted Myra as a girls name but my husband nixed it saying it sounded "old". I think that's a dumb excuse seeing as he liked a couple names that were definatly grandma names (June is one that I can think of at the moment).

Makes me sad, I've liked Myra since forever and I'm not allowed to use it. I'm just glad we had a boy because we could agree on that name. xD

  • i wanted to use Keegan James but my husband hates the name :(
  • I love the name xander but my best friends just named there son thatSad
  • Husband and I are TTC and have been throwing baby names around.  I worked in childcare for 5 years so there are TONS of names I refuse to use b/c of unruly children of the past....

Like the name Avery for a girl, however upon looking up meanings found out it means Elf Leader, and my father works for Keebler, so DH doesn't like it...

Always loved the name Isabella or just Belle or Bella, however DH's ex has a dog named Belle....good thing we've got plenty of time to find a girls name....Smile

  • Layla:  But my sister already has a niece named Layla on my BIL side and my husband's goood friend has a Layla.

Eileen: A family name on my husband's side that i like, but the poor girl would be saddle with people singing "Come on Eileen" for the rest of her life.

  • I love the name Jesse for a boy, but MIL's name is Jessica and everyone calls her Jess, and DH thinks they are too close (and I can see his point).  Too bad though, because I love the name Jesse.

  • My husband is Mark, and he ruled out Matthew, Luke or John (the other Gospels).  He had a roommate named Luke in college and got a lot of flack about where Matthew and John were, so he doesn't want to do that again.
  • My fiance's best friend used the one name for a little boy a year ago, I've wanted for 10 years!

     Mason...

Oh well, guess it doesn't flow well with our last name anyway.  :)

  • My favorite boys name is Ned - but I can't use it b/c our last name starts with "N" and DD's name is Nora so two "N"s is too many, plus it sounds nerdy with our last name.  Also, I don't care for the name Edmund or Edward and I am not a huge fan of naming someone a nick name.

  • I've always loved the name Emma but our last name starts with an M and when you say it together it sounds like you're stuttering.  I also always wanted to name a little boy Elijah, but my football fan husband can't stand Eli Manning.  Boo!

Well, on the flip side, my DH always planned on naming his son Sean after his brother, but of course not only is that an ex, but the most recent before I met DH.  I 86ed that one right away and he was not too happy about it.

We finally decided on a boys name when I told DH that he could either work with me so we could decide on a name we BOTH like, or he was going to end up with a son named Elijah Peyton!  (You see I AM a Manning fan!!  Especially Peyton, go Colts!)

  • When I was 15 I had a friend who's neighbor named their little girl Sophie. I decided then and there that I would name my first girl Sophie. It was not a common name then.

My brother dated a girl with a daughter named Sophie and enough time had passed where it was going to be fine to use it...then last year my cousin named her daughter Sophie.

    bummer

  • I am half Lebanese so my fiance and I wanted to name at least one child an Arabic name. We decided Hala (sweetness) for a girl because that is my grandmothers name and we are so in love with Altair (Eagle) for a boy buuut being videogamers we are and many of our friends are they would make fun of us because it happens to be the name of the main character of the videogame Assassins Creed (sigh)

  • I have always loved the name Laurel or Lauren. I have two sister-in-laws named Laura, One named Lori, and a cousin-in-law named Laurel. So the Laur-prefix is a little overused In my Husbands family...but what do you do. So now I'm thinking Riley. No repeats there!
  • My favourite girls names were all unusable: Sydney, Piper, Jenna, Amberlee, Peighton.

Sydney is my all time favourite girls name. DH had an uncle with that name and can't see it for a girl.  Piper runs a close #2, DH doesn't like it.   Amberlee rhymes with our last name, Jenna is a cousin to DH (who has a very large family), and he believes Peighton sounds too much like the hate?!?!?!?

  • Aurelia.  Love it, but DH hates it.  ALAS.

Oh, well.  He's still not talking me into Katie (no offense to the Katies here, I just have bad associations with the name).

"Can I call your baby 'Ze Munchkin,' or 'ZM' for short?" - my best friend
  • My DH convinced me years ago that he could only produce boys - ridiculous I know. In addition he insists that all names have a "k" in them - preferably where not normally used - his name is Erik and his 1st son from a previous relationship is Jakob. As such we discussed only boy names over the years and decided our 1st boy would be Lukas Scott and if we had a 2nd boy we'd name him Kyle Jordan. Well now that I'm actually PG I've decided I no longer like the name Kyle for a boy and I really like it for a girl. I've been trying to convince him that if we have a girl we should name her Kyle Jordin - but he absolutely refuses because he feels it's a boys name. I know it is typically a boys name - but that's part of the appeal for me - I always liked boys names for girls and besides I have heard of girls being named Kyle before - any thoughts from all you out there? Am I crazy or do you have any ideas to help me plead my case?

  • i love the name Riley for either a girl or boy. but our neighbor has an annoying barky dog named Riley so there goes that name unless we move in the near future!
  • Ever since I was younger I always wanted to name a daughter Paisley. (DH doesn't like it but I don't think he's completely vetoed it so I will try more convincing). I've recently fallen in love with the name Hazel for a girl and again not DH's fav.

The boy name I can't use, but love, is Westley. (HS boyfriend... DH really vetoed this one, but I wouldn't have used it anyways).

  • Zawakening, why don't you name your daughter Kylie? I have a cousin named that and it's really pretty and feminine. You can also call her Kyle for short.

I always wanted to name my son Peter from when I was a little kid, but that's my husband's last name. Oops. I like Henry and Theodore, too, but they were the names of my husband's rowdy alcoholic college roommates so he can't picture it. The other one I want is Alexander, but that's WAY too popular right now. We also thought about Leo, but that rhymes with our dog's name!

    I'm hoping we have a girl. ;-)

  • Linus. DH and everyone I know has vetoed it. Damn!!!
