(clicky) Do you lock your house when you are home during the day?

Just curious... I almost always do because we spend all our time in our basement and wouldn't hear the front door if someone came in...

Choose the one you do most.  I know you probably don't lock your doors or keep them unlocked ALL the time.  :)

  • I am compulsive about this.  I will lock my doors and then go back and check every now and then. I trust no one.

  • If I am in the living room or front part of the house sometimes I open the front door (we have a glass storm door) to let in the light.

    Otherwise, we lock our doors.

  • I voted SS becuase I dont lock them intentionally but we have one of those locks that locks to the outside automatically.  We only use our deadbolt at night but there are nights where nothing is locked!

This. I also have my alarm set on instant.

  • I think i have a false since of security. We live in a tiny town with a very low crime rate (once our front door was left open on accident when we were gone for 12 hours and everything including out laptops and ps3 were right where we left them) that being said, I try to keep the doors locked, but if i forget or if DH didnt lock them on his way out (if i am sleep when he leaves he locks them and they remain locked until he gets home) i dont stress to much. And i love having the door with the screen and the windows open when its nice out!

  • I always keep them locked. When I was in college, my roommate's bf would often come over late at night, so I rarely checked the door. One morning I woke up and there was a strange man sleeping on our couch. I went to her room and she didn't know who he was, so we called the cops. Found out that he was drunk and he meant to go next door to his cousins. All the 'what ifs" went through my head that day.  So yes, I ALWAYS have my doors locked.

Whaaa... I would freak if that happened to me!  I never used to lock my doors but now with LO, I feel like I have to for all those 'just in case' scenarios.

  • i need a "hell yes" option...we live in an area that I dont feel safe at all and its a major culture shock for me coming from WV...but I am very OCD and paranoid as well...

    Thanks!  ;)

  • They're always locked. We come and go thru the garage and all other doors are always locked, we check them once at night before we go to bed and just assume unless someone has been there that they are still locked
  • I work all day so we're only home at night. I lock the doors when I go to work in the morning, so DH and DS have locked doors all day. If I see DH off to work (walk him to the door), I lock the door behind him. Otherwise I lock them around 7 when DS goes to bed.
  • I live right next to a bar so yes I am manic about locking and checking the locks.
  • Nope, only at night. We live in a rural area, if it were up to my DH we would never lock the door, however, I had a scary night-time experience in college so I am pretty paranoid about locking them at night.
  • We always have our doors locked and we come in through the garage, so I put S.S.
  • Unfortunately, I now have to make sure it's always locked.  Windows too.  We had nice neighbors on both sides (no one across the street) but one passed away and his grandson took over the house.  He is nice enough but he's starting to come over a lot to ask for favors (can I use your phone, can you give me a ride, etc.) and he has shady people there sometimes.  One psycho gf after another (or maybe it's been the same one) and he's told us twice to call the cops if we see anyone there.  He thinks someone broke into his house last week...I could go on.

I hate that there's weird stuff going on next door. At least we have a big scary dog in the backyard.  Big Smile

  • Um, I lock my doors all the time.
  • Always. I'm already worried about spring when I like having the doors open. Our town is pretty safe, but I'm a worry wart.
