According to an e-mail, Andrea Fay Friedman, who voiced a character with Down syndrome on last Sunday's episode of "The Family Guy" who ticked off Sarah Palin, thinks "laughing is good."
Friedman, a familiar TV face due to guest roles on such popular shows as "Law and Order: SVU," plays a young woman who goes out on a date with "Family Guy" character Chris. At one point she says, "My dad's an accountant, and my mom's the former governor of Alaska."
Friedman sent an email to the New York Times and other media outlets after Palin called the episode "a kick in the gut" on her Facebook page and her daughter Bristol called the show's writers "heartless jerks." But the Times only printed an innocuous excerpt of that email. Here it is in full:
"My name is Andrea Fay Friedman. I was born with Down syndrome. I played the role of Ellen on the 'Extra Large Medium' episode of Family Guy that was broadcast on Valentine's Day. Although they gave me red hair on the show, I am really a blonde. I also wore a red wig for my role in 'Smudge' but I was a blonde in "Life Goes On." I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line "I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska" was very funny. I think the word is "sarcasm."
In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life. My mother did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of French bread the way former Governor Palin carries her son Trig around looking for sympathy and votes."
Okay, I guess it's on.
Re: Family Guy actress with Down's fires back at Palin
as they say....awesomesauce...
Love it.
she's a great actress- I liked her in SVU, and I LOVE that she lives her life. I also LOVE that her parents CLEARLY did an awesome job giving her confidence...we should all be so lucky!
I think people forget that ds is a diagnosis that many people LIVE with- like live fully and enjoy life with- like lots of other diagnoses.
I hope to see more of her. And less of Sara Palin.
I love her response too. ?I don't watch that show, but I heard about the?controversy and thought they were just 'making fun' of people with Down Syndrome (but I had no idea what happened during the show or anything, so I'm prety?clueless on the episode)?and I thought that was wrong. But since she was in on it and ok with it, that's?cool with me.?
I agree she has a great attitude. ?
:: thumbs up ::
What do you think was "way out of line?"

I don't know, I think FG lives to be offensive, and most people know that. I think they would make fun of anyone.
I absolutely loathe the show and think it's 100% unfunny so I'm biased against this whole thing to begin with. At the same time, I loathe Sarah Palin so I'm biased against her, too. WHAT TO DO.
I think I might hate FG more than I hate Sarah Palin...hard to say. I actually saw this episode b/c MH watches it. It was no worse than it usually is. I mean, they make MOLESTATION jokes! I really hate that show.
Regardless, good for this girl and her career, and I agree w/ BOF's comments.
I wonder this too. From what bit I saw, they depicted her as a strong, independent person.
Seriously, FG is WAY OUT OF LINE every time it is on the air. This was no different than usual, and if anything, I would say it was less offensive than usual since it made fun of Sarah Palin, not people with DS. I mean the girl w/ DS was kind of mean, but nothing really stood out as them making fun of DS. She had DS, but that was about it if I'm remembering right. Unless Stewie said something about her? I wasn't watching that closely.
Have I mentioned that I HATE FAMILY GUY?! It's just so repulsive. And I like inappropriate humor.
Ah, the song is coming back to me now. I remember being repulsed. Seriously HATE Family Guy.
I guess I stick w/ my no worse than usual statement, though.
