Success after IF

anyone have/go to a party at Gymboree?

I'm thinking about doing O's first birthday party at Gymboree, and was wondering if anyone has been to one there and what you thought.

I think I would actually save money vs. doing it at home (no booze, very little food, no bouncy house (which seems to be mandatory in my circle of friends)) plus would save a lot of stress about preparing my house, entertaining kids age 6 mo - 4 years, being stuck inside due to rain, etc.

Most of our friends have kids, but how torturous would it be for DH's kidless friends to spend 1.5 hours at Gymboree with pizza and cake?  Are there other issues I'm not thinking about?

I'm kind of excited about the possibility.  Plus, it would be a first birthday party that's actually for the kids, rather than the parents - yay!

Re: anyone have/go to a party at Gymboree?

  • I had DS's first bday party at a Gymboree-like place and I've been to several Gymboree parties.  They are great- DS has a blast and all the kids do.  It's SO easy for you as the host- everyone just shows up, entertainment is provided for the kids, it's babyproofed and they kick everyone out after 1.5 hours and they clean up.  I did hear that Gymboree has kind of an a la carte pay system so you pay a little extra for everything you use or do.

FWIW, I didn't have any friends there who didn't have kids.  It was really for DS and his "friends" and my mom friends (alot of husbands came too).  I think it would have been pretty painful for kidless friends to be there but they always have the option of showing up, dropping off a present and running, or not showing at all.  I think it would be painful for them to show up to a house party too so you're probably even on that front.
