Success after IF

Empty sac at 7weeks?

Ok ladies, be honest with me here.

In October I had a m/c, an ectopic pregnancy. I started spotting early and lost the baby around 8/9 weeks.

I am pregnant again and went in on Wednesday (7w4d) and the tech said that there was a sac measuring at 6 weeks but there was a little flitter but not a featus. I am having no cramping or spotting though.

I have to have beta draws today and prob Monday to see what my numbers do but am just wondering if anyone has had this to end up with happy results. I know that my dates can't be off, the 7w is already calculated with a late O.

 TIA

Re: Empty sac at 7weeks?

  • If you want honest I'm your gal.

If you are 100%, no mistaking it completely sure of your dates it's highly improbable that this is a viable pregnancy.

Not having a HB at this point would be suspect but not having anything - fetal pole, etc is pointing towards blighted ovum at this stage of the game.

However... it sounds like maybe you're not sure of your O date?  Were you charting?  Using OPK's?  Any chance at all that your dates could be off?

At this point since they've located it in the uterus I'm not sure why they're doing betas.  Your best diagnostic from this point is to see some form of growth via u/s.

I wish you the best and hope beyond hope that I'm dead wrong.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

I agree with all of this.

  • good luck, sweetie!  I am hoping your dates are off.  I'm also surprised they are doing betas after an u/s.  what are they trying to find out from that?  I mean, are they also waiting a week and then bringing you in.  My RE won't see people before 6w5d, but if you are wrong on your dates, a few days could make a huge difference.
  • I know exactly when I o'd due to IF, charting and dealing with this for 4 years. I also know when the last time we had sex was which was 2 days after O so my dates are spot on.

They are just doing my draws to see what my numbers do. If they start going down then it's pretty sure it will be a m/c. Either way if I don't start the m/c process I will be asking for another u/s.

*I also meant to say my m/c was a Blighted Ovum last time, not Ectopic.

  • I agree with the pps....just wanted to say I'm sorry. I really hope everything works out OK. ((HUGS))
  • I agree with Howleyshell.  If you are absolutely sure of your o date, then you should have seen something on today's u/s.

I hope your calculations are off.  I will be thinking of you.

  • I will be honest with you.

When I got pregnant with my 2nd, I had a sonogram at 7 weeks to see if I could "graduate" to my OB/GYN.  There were 2 sacs.  One with a heartbeat and a little baby and another that was completely empty.  I ended up with one healthy baby from the viable sac--the other my body just absorbed.  I didn't have even a flutter in the second sac and when it's that early, it's really difficult to detect much.  If I were you, there really isn't a reason to give up hope.

Good luck, I will say a prayer for you.  I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.
