WTH could be the problem? Call doctor?

As I posted last night, dd has been impossible lately. Moody, crying, a holy terror all around.

She slept unusually late this morning. Got up and has just been cranky. She's laying here on the couch on my lap right now- she keeps falling back to sleep, then waking up crying, then back to sleep, then crying again...you get the idea.

Whenever I ask her what's wrong she very consistently always points to her knees/legs and cries, "Dis!"  I ask her if it hurts and she nods yes.

Would you be concerned enough to call the doctor? Normally I wouldn't call for something like this, but I'm a little unsure since it's a Friday and if things got worse it would be at least Tuesday before I'd be able to get her into be seen. No fever or apparent sickness, just the non-stop crankiness, crying about her legs and sort of tired/lethargic.

  • yes,  but I'm also a worrier. Hope she feels better.

I'm not a worrier, but I would call too.  Just for peace of mind.

  • I would call the dr.  the sleeping off and on and crying like that is a big sign of an ear infection.

legs might just be a growth spurt.

  • I am also not a worrier but I would call.

  • Ugh.

I hate trying to make these decisions: the doctor's office is an hour away and taking her means ds has to miss school when he's already missed two days this week because of snow (and he's going to miss school on Monday too because of another medical appointment.) We also have to pay out of pockets for all doctor visits which also really makes me hesitate to schedule unnecessary appointments.

On the other hand though, I'd hate to overlook something going on with her and would totally be a crappy parent if I let her be sick all weekend.

It's times like this that I wish we had a doctor in town instead of one so far away...then I at least wouldn't have to make ds miss school today.

  • My first guess is EI or growth spurt. Hope she feels better!

  • I wouldn't even hesitate. Take her in.

  • Instead of driving the hour to your pedi, could you go to one of those take care clinics at a Walgreens?  That way you can just easily have her ears looked at and not make DS miss school.
