Did you find out gender at amnio ultrasound?

I have decided to do the amnio next Tuesday and am wondering if I will definitely find out gender that day?  Also, did you have to pay extra for rushed results of amnio or did insurance cover it?

    You find out the gender whenever you find out the results of the test.  They may be able to tell you the gender based on the u/s but not 100% accurate.  Do you mean if insurance pays for the FISH test?  Good question - I'd like to know too.

    We did.....very obviously a boy.....confirmed with prelim amnio results 3 days later and then again when we got the final results which was only 8 days after the test.   They did a pretty detailed ultrasound before the amnio and asked if we wanted to know....I'd say by 16-17 weeks if they are able to get the baby to cooperate, you will be able to find out....of course it's a guess but that's true for any ultrasound gender determination.   The amnio results will tell you accurately.   We did not have to ask for FISH nor did we have to pay extra.  They just did it...good luck!

    We got a 'best guess' of girl at the ultrasound. DD was sitting with her legs crossed up tight and would not move them to show. It was confirmed by the amnio 10 days later.

    Our perinatal center does not do FISH results unless there is a reason to be worried - it's a big place and serves 20+ counties of upstate NY, so they have to prioritize and AMA alone does not get you the faster results (at least, that was how it was explained to me). We had the test on a Tuesday and got the results Friday of the following week.

    we found out the gender results at the u/s;  insur covered the amnio but it wasnt a rush job

    I had my amnio today and we decided not to find out the gender of the baby. I am 45 and this is our first pregnancy which was a complete surprise. We decided to let the sex of our baby be a surprise until delivery. Big Smile
