Bedtime went super easy. Kept him up a little later than normal and put him down awake but good and tired. No crying at all, he fell asleep fine.
4AM wake up was rough. Before we started Ferber we spent a week weening off the night feedings (also from the Ferber book), so he has no longer been getting any nutrition at night and that's been going well. I know he wasn't hungry.
It took an hour for him to fall back asleep - which is funny because we'd decided 5AM was when we'd officially call it morning if he was still awake. He's sleeping soundly now. I'll wake him for the day at 6:30, but if he wakes on his own between now and then that'd be ok.
Ferber says you can choose whichever check in times work for your family, so we chose 3, 5 and 7 thinking 7 minutes would be easier on us than 10. I'm not sure that was a good idea. He got more worked up when we'd come in, and I think an extra 3 minutes might have helped. Tonight we'll probably bump it up to the 3, 5,10 that was in the book.
They say night 1 is the worst, right? Right? ... Please tell me I'm right.
Re: Ferber Night 1 Down
Awesome that he fell asleep on his own! This is my biggest worry. I nurse DS to sleep right now, and it is working out really great for us. I'm not sure how to break it!
I was just reading about this method last night and I am sort of interested in it. We'll probably wait till DS is 5 months though (maybe...)
And yes, I think the first night of doing something different may always be the worst. GL with tonight
I say as long as it's working for you keep doing it!
7AM - He's up, fed, dressed and happy! I honestly think he would have cried longer and harder if we had been rocking him last night.
I'm glad it wasn't so bad. DD had a habit of getting more worked up when we went in but she would calm down right after we left. I would take her lovey and put it on her tummy and put my hand on top of it. She felt secure with my hand on her tummy and then I could sneak out and she'd still feel her lovey on her tummy.
Good idea! We'll try that.
