Babies: 3 - 6 Months

My sister pissed me off yesterday

I was talking to my sister on the phone yesterday about how far along she was and when she was actually due. I thought she had gotten pregnant in November so that meant she would have her baby in August but she says she got pregnant in October so she's due in June. I don't really know how far along she is since she hasn't gone to the doctor yet.

Our convo.
Her: I want to be induced.
Me: Why?
Her: Because I'm tired of being pregnant.
Me: But being induced isn't natural and you're only supposed to be induced if you're overdue or if something is wrong with the baby.
Her: With DS1 I told my doctor I was tired of being pregnant so he induced me.
Me: So because you're tired of being pregnant, you're going to force your baby to come out before it's ready?
Her: It's not a big deal, I did it with DS1.

Ugh, seriously? If she didn't want to be pregnant she should have worn a fvcking condom. God, I just want to slap her. And her OB for inducing her because she was "tired of being pregnant." Yeah, that's a great excuse to be induced.

Maybe I am clueless and it's not really a big deal to be induced. I don't know. Will someone fill me in on whether it's okay to be induced for NO reason whatsoever?

ETA: My sister wants to be induced a week or two before her due date. Not now.

  • Um.  She's due in June or August and she is already tired of being pregnant and wants to be induced.  Right.

  • She meant like a week or two before her due date. Not now.
  • Wow, she's giving up pretty early.  She's not due for a long time.
  • lol.  I was confused.  Makes much more sense now.  It's still pretty messed up, but I feel a lot better about it now.
  • She's 4 mos pg and hasn't gone to the doctor yet?

    Ah, ok thank God.

I don't think it is ok for someone to be induced for no reason or for being "sick of being pregnant" but some doctors will do it.

When I was pregnant and uncomfortable, a friend messaged me on FB and said - "Just have the doc induce you at 38 weeks.  That's what I did.  They are fully baked by then anyway."

    ::eyeroll::

  • The only times you should be induced is if you're super late or there is a danger to the baby.  And to want to be induced a few weeks before the due date is awful.  Her poor baby may not be developmentally ready to come out yet and she just wants to pull him/her out, shock them like that just to not be PG anymore?!?!  I can roll my eyes about this if this was a first time mom but she already has a kid?  Please tell me after this one they're done.

  • Once the baby has reached 37 weeks and is healthy i don't have a problem w/ ppl inducing...and if they need to before for the safety of mom or baby...

kinda early for her to be thinking about inducing though!

    Oh thank you!  Smile

  • Maybe it's just me but...why is it any of your business? If she wants to be induced a couple weeks early, and the docs ok with it, that's their decision to make.  We all get on here and complain that people jump on us for our parenting decisions, then we do it to them. I understand your concern for here baby, but it is HER baby.
  • I had a friend who said this same thing and her dr. induced her at 38 weeks.  Well obviously her body wasn't ready so she failed to progress and ended up having a c-section after being in labor for 24 hrs.  This was her 2nd baby - first was delivered vaginally w/ no problems.  Just goes to show you!
  • Um yeah- why hasn't she been to a doctor yet?

And really, she's only a couple months along and already thinking about an induction??? She's got a long road ahead of her.

  • D*mn.  I would have loved for baby girl to stay in another two weeks!
