2nd Trimester

Plus Size Maternity Clothing Question

Hi Ya'll!

I'm popping over from the 1st Tri boards with a question about maternity clothes!

I am wondering when some plus size mamas need to wear maternity pants.  I am a size 16 and am doing fine in my pre pg pants.  I hate the Be Band and am thinking I will go right to mat. pants.  I just don't know when to start thinking about them!

TIA!

Re: Plus Size Maternity Clothing Question

  • whenever you get uncomfortable in your own pants...it depends on the person and your comfort level. You will know when you're ready for them.

  • I bought my first pairs on Sunday, Valentines Day.

I am a 18 PP but in the last year I lost 30 pounds.  I was just wearing my "fat" girl jeans for the last 2 weeks but they were too loose in all the wrong places.  I haven't gained any weight but my old jeans were too tight below my belly button to be comfortable after BFP.

    I LOVE my maternity jeans!

  • I was a size 14 pp, and I went to Old Navy and bought two pairs of non-maternity jeans in a size 16 and they are still working ok for me, but are beginning to get a bit snug.  I would try a size 18, because I figure you can wear them for a while after the baby too.  I haven't tried the BE band, but I might look into that too.  I will probably have to go to exclusively maternity stuff in a couple of weeks.
  • I stayed in my regular pants till about 15 weeks..and then switched over ....mostly for comfort...I found my work pants were super uncomfortable by the end of the day
  • SInce this is my second I am already in my Maternity clothes and have been since 10 weeks, but, with DD i went into maternity jeans at 16 weeks and my workpants were good till about 20 weeks, cause they had some give.

ON hase great prices on maternity clothes, and I get my pants from Motherhood.

  • It's when you get uncomfortable. Everyone is different. For me discomfort struck mid 2nd tri and I got great clothes from the Old Navy maternity dept. They are incredibly comfy and I've basically lived in Old Navy maternity clothes since then.

  • I wear both. I have 2-3 pairs of regular jeans that are ok still, but have 2 pairs of maternity jeans I alternate in as well. I just started with the maternity jeans last week (week 14). I much prefer the maternity pants honestly.

  • I started wearing mat. clothes around 9 weeks, just for comfort. The most comfortable ones were bought at Motherhood.

  • I was a 24 pre-pg and I started wearing them.....maybe around end of 1st tri - just sometimes.  I wear them everyday now but I wear them WITH a Bella Band because it's tighter and holds them on better plus it smoothes everything out better.

I think it'll depend on where you "show".  I am showing mostly from my boobs to my (former) waist band area.  My lower belly is the same size as prepreg. I can wear my pre-preg jeans with an elastic band and a bella band.

Just make the change when you feel your pants getting uncomfy at the end of the day
  • I just bought my 1st pair last week from old navy and I ordered a pair also. I was a 22 before I got pregnant but I can wear an 18 in the maternity pants. I lost about 17 lbs but I've gained 4 back. I can still sort of fit my regular pants, can't button them but I can zip them all the way up. But they are extremely baggy so I just decided to buy a few pair of pants. As for my work pants, I have to roll them under my belly but that is so uncomfortable. Problem is I can't find navy blue work pants anywhere and my job gave away our old uniforms (but won't give us the new ones yet)

  • It definitely depends... I'm about a size 16.

I'm still in my old jeans and I've only gained 3 inches in my waist. Well, I can wear one pair of jeans with no problem. The other pair (my favorite) I can wear out to, say, walk the dog, but it's uncomfortable to sit down in them. I have a BeBand, but I'm not a huge fan because it keeps rolling up on me in the back all the time. I may buy some pocket dots....

I'll probably be buying some pants soon, just so it's easier. Right now I'm really not showing unless you know me and I'm wearing something form fitting.

  • Whenever your pants are getting a little tight or when you're not comfortable anymore. I was a size 16 PP and when I was 10weeks my pants wouldn't button anymore (mostly because of bloat that wouldn't go away so I wasn't comfortable) and I went and bought some and have been wearing them ever since. SOOOO much better now!

  • I still haven't bought any and haven't needed to and I'm nearly 26 weeks. I had lost ten pounds before I got pregnant and have just now put that weight back on so most of my old jeans still work. I guess it really just depends on the person and when you will need to buy them.
