Babies on the Brain

Leaky boob question

When Jake eats from the left boob, my right boob leaks, a lot. Enough to go through a pad, bra, and shirt. It just started a few days ago. Is this normal? And how do I get it to stop doing this?!

Re: Leaky boob question

  • It will stop in time. Your boobs are still trying to regulate. Are you nursing from both sides at each feeding? That should help keep everything even.

  • Hi there!

Yep, totally normal. I found out about this little issue when I tried nursing w/o a shirt on the first couple of weeks and would end up soaking everything in sight - the baby, blankets and myself.

Your supply won't really regulate probably for several weeks - maybe up to 2 months?

As far as leaking, I still wear nursing pads but the excessive leaking probably slowed down around 4 months.

    GL!

  • Oh, and btw - my favorite pads are the Lanisoh Washable nursing pads.

Theiy're pretty thick and in the early months I would wear two on each side which helped prevent getting a soaking wet bra.

  • Thanks ladies. I knew to expect some leaking but didn't realize it was going to be so much! Guess thicker pads and patience are needed.

  • My left side still does this occasionally if DD nurses from the right side first.  Though in the beginning, both sides did this, and it was a LOT more.

I think you just have to live with it, unfortunately.
