Is a bottle sterilizer necessary?

do most people sterilize bottles before every use?  I thought we could just sterilize the first time straight out of the package by boiling them in water and then just hot soapy water to clean them from then on.  I read that boiling nipples and such in hot water too often will make them soft or tacky.  Just wondered what everyone else's opinion was and if a sterilizer is necessary?

    Boiling water = sterilization. No need to buy something fancy to do the same job. I recall sterilizing the nipples every few months... but not all the time. Probably for the reason you state, but I'm not sure - best to check with the maker's website or something on that item.

    We currently ave thrush and sterilization is needed daily. I am happy we have it

    We boiled them the first time and now just wash with hot, soapy water.

    I have a sterilizer that I use once a week or so.  Usually just the nipples but sometimes I do everything.  I also use it to sterilize my pump parts but I also boil things when I have the time.

    We just use the dishwasher. We have a sterilizer and have used it once.

    Hot soapy water or the dishwasher for over 2 mos with no problems here.  I do think it's important for the bottles to dry in their own clean area,  We keep ours on a drying rack away from everything else in the kitchen and clean that area regularly.
