My understanding is that it is something that happens very early in the 1st trimester, before you see the HB. Some women don't know they are PG with twins in the beginning because they typically don't get u/s that early. M/C risk goes way down once you see the HB.

not to scare you- but there is always a risk of losing one of them... it just isn't called "vanishing twin" after a certain amount of time (not sure when that is, i would think after the first tri).
It's horribly worrysome being pg at all- and with twins even worse... and then you have them and worry about them even more - so finding ways to deal with the worry is helpful. For me it has been prayer that has saved me from freaking out all the time.
