Really dry skin or a rash?

DS has red patches of very dry skin on his arms and his chest/tummy, but nowhere else.  Do you think it could be a rash or just dry skin?  I tried putting lotion on his arms today (Burts Bees for babies) and I think it stung him b/c he just screamed :(  I put some baby oil on tonight and I guess I'll call the Dr. to rule out rash.  Ugh!

  • I would try Eucerine cream.

  • Does your lotion have a fragrance?  Maybe it's stinging him.  Also, I know for me when I have dry skin and it gets red and rash-like my skin can sting when I put lotion on it.  After a couple applications it always gets better.  maybe that's the case for your DS.

  • My DS has the same patches on his face. Our pedi said to use Aquaphor on it. I was wondering if it's because his skin is so sensitive and maybe our air is dry in the house?
Often the tummy can be a sign of allergies though. It's a good idea to call your pedi just to check it out.
  • We just use olive oil.
  • Sounds like eczema.. our DS has a mild case. We just had to reduce his baths to twice a week and I use mild baby skin cream on it (it's on his elbows mostly and sometimes little  patches on his theighs or his sides/back.)
