I was just wondering what you think about leaving your baby in the car while you pump gas. I was at the gas station today and after I pumped my gas I turned my car on then went inside to pay and grab a pop. Some lady yelled at me when I got back outside about how I shouldn't have left my baby alone. I thought it was crazy cause I could see my car the whole time I was inside and it's not like there were any strange people hanging around my car. I just her to mind her own buisness and drove away. What do you think?
Re: My first question here
LOL
Wow. I hope you aren't being serious.
OMG, I'm so glad I logged in on comedy night here...lol
i would never leave my dd in my car and walk away for any reason.

why? it's fine. they're sleeping most of the time anyway. momma needs some fun to sometimes. and like hell if i'm going to pay a sitter. a beer and a shot never killed anyone.
I live in a large city, so I can't leave my LO's alone in the car.
I could get them out and take them in with me, but I usually just pay a homeless person a dollar to stand there instead.
I would have but I forgot my credit card at home. I had to pay with cash. And it's just such a hassle to unhook the carrier, drag it in, and hook it back in again. I just thought if I did it quickly it'd be OK
Did you ever get your 7 seater SUV? I remember you mentioning that the new convertible car seat was getting in the way when you brought men out of the bar.
I would think a 3rd row would have helped that.

Dead.
i can't believe i didn't think of this when i needed to run into Adam+Eve to get my VD outfit for babymaker!
a hassle? i'd take dealing with the hassle over something happening to dd any -day.

They are just being funny (or trying to be).
Honestly, it isnt safe what you did. I remember reading about a baby that got stolen out of the car while her mom ran into the post office to get the mail. Yes, its a hassle to pull out the car seat, but would you ever forgive yourself if something happened to your daughter.
Its always better to be safe than sorry.

?
And the 7 passenger SUV made me LOL for realz
?
But I had to leave the car running because it was so cold.
No one has ever done this before? I didn't think it was such a big deal.
Ok, you asked a question. Be prepared for people to tell you what they think. In this case what you did wasnt safe. Period. Also, its really bad for your car to fill up while it is running.
You think people routinely leave their babies unattended?
You just don't do that. Ever. Inconvenience be damned. I will gladly unstrap and haul my kid into a gas station to pay if I have to. There are any number of things that can happen before you can run out to stop them.
Same thing with hitting an ATM, running into the post office for mail, or anything else you might think of. Your baby should never be left in a car, even if it's off and locked and parked in plain sight. If you're not standing within feet of your car, your kid is not necessarily safe.
I have only done it once. And it was in a smaller town where the pump is right in front of the door. I ran in and literally set my money down (only one pump so no need to explain where I was ha) and ran back outside. While I ran in though I did lock the doors just in case.
In the city I live no, I wouldn't because there is WAY too much crime that happens. The other day when I had no money on my card but cash I just went to a full service gas station. Then I didn't have to leave the car.
I dont know why you find it so unbelievable that people dont leave their infants unattended. It seems pretty common sense to me to keep your child in your sight at all times.
If you are trying to make yourself feel better about your bad decision, then look elsewhere.
Did you just listen to yourself? It's to hard to unhook and re-hook the carrier? Doesn't it just click in? I definitely would not every leave DS in my car if I'm not in there or right next to it (aka pay at pump). Quit being lazy and un-hook the dammn carrier.
I'm not lazy. Please don't be mean. I'm just trying to get some information. But I guess I have my answer now.
You guys seem to be a little uptight. I thought you'd be a little more relaxed.
Relaxed =/= leaving baby unattended outside alone in a?car?while I walk around a 7/11 for a few minutes trying to find something to drink and/or pay for my gas. ?

Chiming in from 0-3
A friend of mine once left her 3 kids (6 months, 1 year, 2 years) in her car while it was running. She was in a quiet neighborhood and parked in the driveway- she was looking to rent the house and was checkig it out. She decided to check out the backyard through the side gate. After about 30 seconds she walked back to the front and her car was gone- stolen. The car was recovered by the police a few blocks away and luckily the kids were fine but scared. Needless to say what you did was a bad move and you should never do it again. You are lucky that your baby was safe. FWIW- I would have probaby said something to you as well. Hopefully this is a lesson learned.
I hate to even comment on this thread but what you did was most likely illegal. You cannot ever leave your baby in a car. I'm pretty sure it would be considered child endangerment.
I understand why you would wish this was an option. Trust me, I've wished I could just leave him and run into a store, but I would NEVER do it. And please don't say we're all uptight. I'm a super laid back mom but this is simply something you cannot ever do.
