Shopping Cart seat only?

Well, I am terrified of putting DS in the shopping cart seat. He is too big to continue in the infant seat that I put in the cart, but he doesn't have the concept of holding onto things.  He can sit unsupported. But he doesn't hold on to anything to pull himself up.  He only just started rolling from stomach to back about 3 weeks ago, no where near crawling or pulling himeself up.

Does anyone else put their LO in the shopping cart seat?

I have a shopping cart cover, but I am just afraid that he will wack his face on the side of the cart since he doesn't have the concept of holding on.

Re: Shopping Cart seat only?

  • DS doesn't hold on half of the time.  He just sits and looks around.  He is rolling, crawling and standing, but doesn't try to do it in the shopping cart.  I think you're overthinking. ;)

  • strap him in-  he will be ok, he might tip a bit-  but B was like that at first and did fine.

  • Buckle him in and put a thick blanket on either side of him if your worried.  I think the shopping cart cover isn't super supportive.
  • I was afraid the first time last week also.  My LO slide to the side a little so I kept my arm there for support.  Give it a shot on a short trip to see how he does

This too also we had a cover but the belt that comes on the cart is higher up on him and i think keeps him more secure, DS dose not sit completely without support yet but likes the vantage point of sitting up in the cart

  • we have put L in it a few times if its a short trip. He rolls & sits supported but doesn't crawl or pull himself to sitting, not even close. Just strap him in snuggly and put a blanket near the side, he may tip/slouch to one side but won't bang his head if you have him buckled in!

  • We've been putting DD in the seat with a cart cover for about a month now. She does fine with it even though she doesn't hold on. I think our cover is pretty 'cushy' though so it makes me feel better. If she were to lean back for forward quickly I think she'd be ok.

  • DD never holds on in the shopping cart and she has never hit her head. Even if she did, nothing will happen since the cover is soft. I don't think that many babies hold on when they're in the seat.
  • I put DS in the shopping cart seat all the time! Usually we use our cover, but if we forget it I don't sweat it, I just wipe it down with an antibacterial wipe. His back rests on the metal part and he just sits and looks around, he LOVES riding in the cart!

  • agree with the previous posters.. DD kind of slouched the first few times.. I felt better about it when we had the cover.   Instead of blankets to bolster her up, we put a bag of potatoes on one side and a bag of lemons on the other!  It was hysterical, she loved it, they were on our grocery list.. worked out fine.  As someone else said, don't over think it - they need the practice sitting up.

  • Have you even tried? You'd be surprised when natural life-instinct kicks in and holding on is a major 'protect oneself' action.

I use a cart cover 1) helps reduce germs, 2) I like the eddie bauer version because of the harness goes over the shoulders and around the waist.

We've done this since he was 6 months.
