Our DD has been on rice formula since she was 2 months per her pedi for horrible reflux that meds alone weren't controlling. Instead of adding the cereal ourselves, the ped suggested buying the formula w/ the letters AR (for added rice) in the title. I think ours is Enfamil- but we use the Target brand.. it helped IMMENSLEY.
Good luck.

Thanks! We are on Enfamil Gentlease b/c of her gassiness. I don't think it has it in it. I'll have to check though!

Youre right- that one doesn't have it. It's Enfamil AR (there isn't anything else in the title).. and it's not for gas or anything like that... it litterally is just added rice :-) HTH

We add it to his bottles. I BF when we're together but he gets bottles during the day at daycare and sometimes on the weekends. My pedi said you can add up to a tablespoon per ounce of liquid (BM in my case) but I usually do just 1 tbsp per bottle. Sometimes it seems to help a lot, other times it doesn't seem to make any difference. We've been doing it for so long now though that I don't really think about it.
Was your pedi suggested actual spoon feeding of the cereal, or adding it to the bottle?

My pedi wont call me back about it. They want to try meds wihtout even seeing her and I dont think it's bad enough for that. I know I'm not a doctor but I dont want to give her meds if I dont have to. She's close enough to 4 months anyway which is when I was planning on starting cereal. I read on the box though that adding it to the bottle can cause them to choke-thats why I was asking about spoon feeding it.

What my pedi told me is that the rice thickens the BM or formula, which helps it stay down in the stomach instead of coming back up. That's the only purpose of it, as a thickening agent. So I don't think spoon feeding it would really help any.
FWIW, we've been adding it to every bottle he's had since he was maybe 3 or 4 weeks old.

Our LO has horrible reflux and we were told to do 1tablespoon of rice per ounce of water. He eats a 6-8oz bottle every 4 hours so we do 6-8tablespoons of oatmeal( rice made him constipated!). I think a lot of pedi's differ on how much cereal to add so you may want to wait until they call you back.
You can buy a product called Thicken Up to thicken bottles without the choking hazard. That's what we do for our reflux baby. We would never put cereal in the bottle.

What Teeh said. But also, I've been told that rice is one of the last steps if meds don't help. ?LO still spits up, not as much as he used but he def. still has some pretty bad spitup days and he has rice in his bottle. Spitting up isn't the problem it is whether or not they are in pain and that is something only the meds can help with. ?

Where do you get this?
We were told to start at 1/2 tsp per oz of water and experiment up to 1 TBSP per oz of water... we ended up at 1 TSP per oz of water
Also you are going to need new nipples for your bottles, or LO will get frustrated, you can cut a hole in the nipple but that did not work well, we ended up with Dr Browns Y Cut Nipples
