One reviewer said her original one was scratched, so she chose to replace it when a element broke. It's a toaster.....not a piece of furniture. I'm good with my $30 toaster.
We have some Italian toaster that retails for more than that--I can't remember the name, though. Here's my toaster story-
When DH and were registering for wedding gifts, he went hog wild with that damn price gun thing. When we got home and I looked up the registry online, we had all kinds of obnoxious crap on our list. We deleted most of it but DH was adament about wanting a nearly $300 toaster. I was so embarrassed--I thought our frineds and family would wonder who the hell we thought we were, asking for a $300 toaster. But I didn't want to be a bridezilla and not allow DH to keep any of his items on the registery so I decided not to fight that battle. Obviously, nobody we know would ever buy us a toaster that cost that much.
So just before our 1 year anniversary, I helped a friend at a home goods trade show out in California. It was the kind of show where manufacturers display all their products and purchasers from reatail stores do all of their purchasing for the year. On the last day of the show, rather than ship the items back home, most of the vendors just sell their samples. I saw that same toaster and talked the vendor into selling it to me for $40. It was practically new, still in the box, had never been used other than as a display for 2 weeks.
I lugged that damn thing through LAX and onto a redeye back to Michigan. It's the size of a small suitcase. I gave it to DH and told him it was because I felt bad that he didn't get the only thing he wanted on the registry. To this day, he still thinks I paid $300 so he could have the toaster of his dreams.
And believe me, there is not one single thing about it that makes it worth $300. It toasts bread exactly the same way as a $30 toaster.
AW!! 4Speedy ~ what a touching story. I love that he believes you still paid that much for it. I guess rather than function, it's how pretty it looks on the countertop!
Re: What makes this toaster $228??
idk, but Pioneer Woman was giving it away (in a contest) for Val Day!
it takes the bread out of the bag, then butters it after it's toasted????
or maybe it makes your sandwich for you????
IDK
this appears to be the same one on amazon for $319 (with 2 reviews):
