That is crazy. I can understand wanting a specific color but a specific black shoe? Seriously. I feel you on the costume cost-ours was $60 and I had to pay that twice. DD is in a combo class (only thing offered for her age) and of course they have 2 costumes. I hope she even gets on the stage.
Thanks I will! THe freakin costume was 75...I really think that shoes on top of that is ridiculous!
wow. I teach twirling and the total costume was $75 but that included the costume, dance tights, and shoes. I guess I now know why I never learned tap.
I try to do everything in my power to keep costs down so the girls can afford the lessons because usually twirling is the first to go in a money crunch situation.
**Just make sure the shoes you do order include the taps. Crazy I know but they do sell them without the taps sometimes.
No clue what the second line means. I haven't seen velcro tap shoes in a store before, only online from a quick google search. I guess they're going for a uniform look and to make it as easy to change out shoes as possible, but they should have decided this before classes started and told the parents that those specific shoes were required then. Plus, tights and velcro are not a good mix.
I think Rylann's two costumes this year were $70 combined. What they have them do is loop a piece of black elastic through the lace holes of the shoe, and sew it together. Then it becomes a slip on shoe. They then add a matching ribbon to the elastic that matches their costume, and they all match.

Sounds like a great idea to me! They want us to go to a specific store to buy them. Honestly, M will probably be in the next size up by the recital so we'd have to buy new tap shoes anyway but I buy them at Payless not where they are sending me.
I am just finding the whole thing crazy especially given that she's so young...there is no way in hell that anyone would notice they are not wearing the exact same shoe. And even if they did notice, I can't imagine anyone would care! Half of the dancers will probably be staring blankly at the audience or picking their nose anyway
Yup, still dancing. They keep all the recital stuff a secret for funsies () so I have no clue what they're wearing yet. Ry said that the ballet dress looks like Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I think the tap dance outfit is bug related. Ladybugs or butterflies.
She's going to be so totally precious though! I can't wait to see pics and video. Thank God for FB since your blogs(remember those?) have gone the way of the dinosaurs;)
Evelyn-Mommy to Ben 9.20.05 and Emily 5.14.07 and Callie 7.10.09!

Yep Dance is a lot more of a financial investment than I expected. DD's costume was $85, her recital fee is another $60, and she is on her third set of both ballet and tap shoes because her feet have grown so much. I am also about to have to go buy $30 of makeup for her for her recital, they are very specific about colors and brands.
Sounds like they might be getting a kickback from the "specific store" where they want you to get the shoes.
I would completely ignore them and use the shoes that you already have. She's THREE, for God's sake. If this was a 13 year old's recital, I would have a different response.

Re: Ugh, shoe requirement for dance recital
black patent velcro close tap shoes
TA 25 Child Tap
whatever the eff that means
Totally agree! They would have to get over it. My 3 yo would show up in the black tap shoes that she already owns.

lol! So true!
What does her costume look like?
Sort of Minnie-mouse-ish so that is what we will be for Halloween
. It's black, white and red; it's very cute just pricey.
R's still dancing then?
Sounds cute!
