I am wondering if anyone else has a staircase that they haven't found a solution for regarding gates. Our house was built in the 1920s and our main staircase comes down to a landing in our living room and then has additional steps on either side of the landing that are open on one side - meaning traditional gates that mount or use tension don't work. We've had to use more of a hearth/fireplace style gate for the top of our stairs, since the tension gates couldn't work up there either.
Are there more options than what is at babies r us? We really want to keep our LO safe but can't seem to find any options for the bottom of our stairs. If you found something that worked, please share!
TIA

Not sure if this would work, but there's a retractable gate. You couldn't put it on the steps leading up to the landing, but you could block the rest of the stairs.

We have this one:

I got it used on craigslist for $20.
Thank you! This could actually work. We wouldn't be able to mount it to the wall but it seems like it can stand on its own similar to those play yards.
Thanks!
