Eczema & wool

DD had an appt with dermatologist for the first time due to eczema this week. Dr had a list of things to be careful with (dust, pet dander, bodywash, etc.) One I didn't already know was wool. He said not to use wool products on her bc they can irritate her skin more. DD is already potty trained but I thought I'd post this for those who use wool covers. If LO has eczema it can make it worse....too bad bc they are sooooo cute!

Re: Eczema & wool

  • Wool actually makes T's eczema better by allowing his skin to breath. I think eczema just takes a lot of trial and error. The thing that has helped us the most was eliminating the foods that T is allergic to from his diet.

  • I am really sensitive to wool (like I can't wear it at all) so it makes my excema worse just bc it irritates my already-irritated skin.

That said, DS has excema and it doesn't seem to bother him at all.

  • Ditto the pp.  DD has eczema, but the wool doesn't seem to make a difference.  Only recently did she even get it on her legs anyway.  Prior to that it was just her belly and the tops of her feet.  Our pedi (well, the one we saw last, ours was sick) said that it's an autoimmune type of condition...like they manifest sickness in the skin.  Interesting idea.  I don't know how valid it is though.
