Would anyone please share their Cervidil experience, please?

Having it on Wednesday night in prep for induction on Thursday morning.

TIA!

  • I had it! I went in the night before, they inserted it, left it in all night.. then the next morning removed it. Lexi arrived at 4:46 that afternoon. ?I had no problems with the?cervadil and you really don't even know it's there.?

  • I was 39w 4d, i was 1cm dilated, DS was high, I had zero effacement. they decided to give me cirvidil because I was getting pregnancy induced hypertension.

I was given cirvidil at 2pm and I had to wait in the hospital for 2 hours, then they sent me home telling me to come back the next morning for my induction

by 5pm that night I was having irregular contractions. i was really uncomfortable but nothing was timeable so I just spent a lot of time in the shower and dealt with it.

by 5am the next morning my contractions were 4 minutes apart. I held off until 9am before going to the hospital. I got to the hospital at 9:30 and they said they were going to admit me, I was 3cms at that point and DS had dropped.

as they walked me to my room where i would be delivering, my water broke!

DS was born at 9:47 that night.

cirvidil is a great friend to me :)

  • I had cervadil inserted at 7pm on a Monday night.  Extremely painless, just couldn't get up for 2hrs afterwards, couldn't eat for 1hr.  It was removed at 7am on Tuesday am.  It didn't have much of an effect, I think it made me about 25% effaced (from 0) but that was it.  Baby was extremely high and never dropped.  I was given pitocin all day but ended up with a c-section.  If my water hadn't broken when it did, 4:30pm on Tuesday, I was going to have the pitocin turned off at 5pm and do another overnight dose of cervadil.  A woman in the room next to me did that, 2 nights of cervadil, and ended up with a normal vaginal delivery.  I wish it had worked for me but there were various factors that made it not work and led to c-section.

Did you get to go home with it in, or have to stay overnight?  I got the impression from my midwife that I will have to stay in L+D that night.  I'll ask her for sure when I see her tomorrow.

  • I'll be the debbie downer here, I guess.  I got cervadil after I had 3 rounds of the cervadil-like-pill (I can't remember what it's called).  Since I was already admitted for my induction, they gave me the 12 hour Cervadil and watched me overnight.  I had some pretty bad contractions, but never dilated.  Since 35 weeks I was 90% effaced, 0 station, and 0 dilation, and even after the pills and cervadil, I never dilated.  But I wouldn't have dilated with pitocin either.  That's my sucky experience with it, lol.
  • I was given cervidil during my first son's delivery. I had severe pre-e and HELLP Syndrome and was induced at 35 weeks. I was completely out of it due to being on magnesium sulfate, but the cervidil actually started my contrax--they never did hook me up to pitocen. After I had been contracting for about 4 hours, they made the decision that I couldn't tolerate labor and we needed to do an emergency c-section. But the cervidil did start labor for me.
  • Inserted 8 am Friday morning.  I was a scant fingertip dialated. Monitored for 3 hours and then sent home with instructions to return at 8 pm.

At 8 pm was barely 1 cm dialated.  Membranes striped, monitored for 2 hours and sent home with instructions to return in 12 hours.

Sat at 8 am we were back. Still not much progress in the dialation dept but mild contractions did start around that time.   Water broke naturally at 9:30 am (with merconium in it).

    6:00 am on Sunday  I had a c-section.

  • Inserted at 8PM Sunday night. Monday they took it out and started the Pitocin around 8AM. At noon that Monday, my water broke. Started pushing 10PM Monday night. Sweet pea was born via c/s (she just didnt wanna come out vaginally) at 1:20AM Tuesday.

  • not exactly what you asked - for my 2nd pg at 34 weeks i had Cytotec to soften my cervix first (not all Drs think it's safe to use it, it cannot be stopped, must 'run it's course'. Some Drs use it instead of Cervidil), then Pitocin. It was horrible. That is all i can say. Contractions one on top of another, agonizing, but yes, i delivered eventually.

It seems that the more favorable the cervix, the smoother induction is going to be

Just for the record, I can't believe Nolan is over a week old already!  So cute!

  • I was induced at 40w4d.  I was only 1 cm and 50% effaced which is where I'd been since 37w.  I checked in to the hospital at 6pm and the cervidil was put in about 6:45.  I was anticipating getting some rest that night and the Dr. was going to come break my water when she arrived at 7am the next morning.  Instead the cervidil threw me into labor almost right away.  My contractions started getting pretty regular by around 8pm and I got my epidural around midnight.  My water broke around 1:30am and then they started pitocin.  DD arrived at 9:22 the next morning.

  • I was induced at 38 weeks, started out at 1 cm, 70%. I had cervadil inserted at 8 PM and then taken out at 8 AM, pitocin started at 10 AM that increased my contractions both in frequency and strength (but not unbearable) and then another round of cervadil started at 9 PM. I had been having contractions for 3 weeks prior to my induction and an hour after the second round of cervadil was inserted my contractions completely stopped. I was able to sleep through the night because of this and the nurses didn't bother me because the floor was full of other women in actual labor.

When I was checked the next morning I was still at 1 cm and the doctor suggested we go for a c-section.  It turns out I was not progressing because the cord was around DS's neck one time, which is why he wouldn't drop down.

I don't want to scare you, just let you know my story.  Good luck, I hope your induction goes smoothly!  Congrats on your LO!

  • Cervadil triggered my labor, but they left it in and gave me an epidural to get me through all the dilation I had to do. After the epidural I was fine though and finally got some rest. They started pit in the morning and i dialated slowly but surely all day. Had my baby at around 6 pm after 15 min of actual pushing.

I would do it all over again the same way.

  • Thank you, ladies!  I appreciate that you weren't afraid to tell me some of the less-than-positive stuff, too, because I like to be realistic about what COULD happen.  I'm still hoping this LO will make an appearance sometime before Wednesday (or at least start to make an appearance), but I'll feel more prepared when I go Wednesday, since I read your responses.  I guess I'll see you on this board by the end of the week... WOW!

Congratulations on your LO's!  Big Smile
