OMG Oprah today

This is heartbreaking. An adult male is telling the story of the sexual abuse he endured from his mother from age 4-11--both having sex with her and her unbelievable prostitution of him during those years. He said that neighbors knew what was going on but told their children to "stay away"--nobody offered help and that further ostracized the family. I'd like to believe I am strong enough that if I ever, God forbid, saw this situation I would go to the authorities but it makes me realize even more how innocent children can be and how much they can depend on strangers for help. God this is awful.

    What is up with all those kinds of stories on Oprah lately? Or maybe it isn't lately and I just see the topics posted more since I'm on the board and never actually watch.

    I don't know- I never get to see it because I work but we are closed today...is she going over to the emotional dark side again?

    That is so sad. I like to think that if I ever knew this was going on, I would step in. Probably beat the shiit out of the mother/abuser.

    I think it was last week that she had the 4 child molesters on there talking about how they gets kids I think?

    This post just made me cry.  I can't imagine how someone could do that to any child, especially their own son.  I look at DS every day and just think about how innocent he is.  He totally trusts us to love him and care for him.  Then I think about other babies who don't have a parent/guardian to care for them properly and are probably left alone most of the day.  Ugh, now I remember why I usually avoid reading things like this (or watching it on tv).  Sad

    I saw the first few minutes and especially as the mom of a little boy, it made me want to vomit. How you could hurt (actually, torture) a child...your own child like she did....it made me sick to my stomach. When he started talking about the prostitution, I had to turn it off... :(

    she was sexually abused as a child by a family member - i think she's trying to make it more public how often this happens so that maybe it won't happen to someone out there.

    i haven't seen today's episode yet (not on here for another half hour) but geez... that sounds horrible.
