I am new to multiples as of today. Here is my story from first tri. I spent a lot of time of GP and BOTB prior to now. Glad - but anxious - to be here!
I had my second doctor's appointment today. The first was a confirmation with blood work, and that showed low progesterone levels but on track / high HCG levels. As a result, I started progesterone supplements two weeks ago. Today, my husband came to the ultrasound so we could see the baby's heartbeat. The tech was sweet, but she wouldn't show us the screen and kept saying "hmmm" and uh-huh" and announced I have a tilted uterus. She said it will not have an effect on childbirth. After about 6 minutes, she asked me if I had any bleeding. I said no, and she said, "Are you sure?" At this point, I am in tears on the table and my husband is griping my hand. As the tears started falling, she asked me not to cry. Then, she announced we are, in fact, having twins. TWINS?! What? This was an unbelievable announcement, especially considering I couldn't think of a single person in our family who was a twin (there is one long, distant relative). So we went into shock mode. A thankful, but still nervous, shock mode. The bad news came next. She detected a small bleed on my uterus where there could have possibly been a third (TRIPLETS?!) or an issue with an ungrown placenta. The bleeding should pass soon, and it is visible on the scan. Also visible on the scan are two very distinct sacs, and we saw two strong heartbeats. According to my doctor, I have a pretty good chance of keeping them both. The other two options are, of course, to lose one or lose both (but a smaller percentage).I am thankful and overwhelmed. I am concerned for their health. Mostly, though, I am still shocked!!! We have an appointment in 2 weeks to check on the little ones
Re: New to multiples...
Thanks. We're cautiously optimistic at this point, and I could use the support.
I look forward to getting to know you!
congrats and welcome!
apparently bleeding is common with twin pgs. I had spotting at 13w - all was fine.
there is a FAQ link on the top of this page (the font is small, you might not notice it if you aren't told) --- check that out for tons of info and then we're all here when you have questions.
Congrats and welcome! Like the other ladies have said, this board is a great resource, and everyone is really helpful. Best of all...it's drama-free!!!!!
There's a book that comes highly recommended when you're ready for it. It's called When You Are Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads by Dr. Barbara Luke. It's got a lot of really great information on diet especially. Many of us don't follow it to the letter, but it give some great info., tips and ideas. There's also a ton of multiple info. that you won't find anywhere else.
Best wishes!
