Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When did your LO start saying mama, baba, etc...

DS talks, but not really in combined consonant/vowel sounds.  Just the ahhs and gaaas that he has been doing for a while.  I try not to worry about the milestones (IMO most kids just do stuff when they are ready) but I was curious about when your LO started doing this.  Thanks :)

Re: When did your LO start saying mama, baba, etc...

  • He hasn't yet and he'll be 8 months in a couple days.  He's doing really well with other milestones so I'm not worried.

  • DS doesn't really babble either.

  • She's just now strongly using "mama" and "baba" and the occasional "dada." 10 months.

Same here. Lots of "yayayaya" and I do consider him very chatty, but just not mamam, dada, bababa, gagaga.

  • My DD has been making sounds like that for a few months, but she is not as advanced in other areas like crawling.

  • DaDa at 7 mo, mama at 9...lots of weird noises, esp growling and shreiking

  • DS only says DaDa all day long. Where is MaMa??

Same here. She started w/ dada around 6 1/2 months and has added in mama and baba and an occasional gaga or t-t-t. Of course, they have no meaning yet but  she sure does love to scream! Big Smile

  • DD is very vocal but we don't have any consonant sounds yet.
  • Thank You for asking this.  I try not to worry either about milestones but for some reason I am always worrying about the verbal ones.  It always seems like there is so many people saying their little ones are babbling so young it makes me nuts.  I feel so much better, especially after talking to the dr. too.  He told me to tell the people that tell me she should be babbling to stop babbling about it.

  • He babbles a lot (dadadadada, bababababa, etc.) but he doesn't know what he's saying.  Yesterday I told him, "Say 'daddy'" and he said "hay baba."  LOL.  He started babbling at around 6 months, but as for saying things that actually mean something, nothing yet.
  • Around 9 months for both of them.  DD is now 2.9 and is incredibly ahead verbally.  She had hundreds of words and was talking in sentences by 18 months, so "later" babbling doesn't mean they will be a later talker.
  • RJ is a big talker. He says all sorts of ma-ma-ma, da-da-da, ba-ba-ba and more... I think he started around 5 months, or a little earlier... but as I said, he is a big talker.

  • He started with "dadada" about a week and a half ago and just recently started with more "heeeey" and other sounds recently.
  • Benjamin has been babbling since right before he turned 6 months. He says a lot of dada, baba, and some mama. But he mostly likes to yell and make noises.
