Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Peyton had a seizure.

It's been over an hour and I still want to vomit & can hardly talk without crying. It wasn't even 'that' bad when you put it in seizure perspective either.

We were at Physical Therapy and Heather (PT) was holding her and we were talking and all of a sudden P just started shaking.  her arms and her head..and Heather looked at me and i just starred at Peyton and her..and then it was over..She gave Peyton to me and she was pretty upset.

She said she didn't want to call it a seizure because she isn't a doctor so she isn't allowed but that she'd recommend I call the pedi..

I kept my *** together for the next 10 minutes until I got to the car and broke down.  I asked to speak to the nurse because I think my child just had a seizure she said she was in a room she could transfer me to voice mail...I said well, (it's snowing bad too, I was all over the road.) i'm out right now at Healthworks and I'm pretty sure thats the kind of thing they'd want to see her for right away.

My pedi got on the phone, I broke down like a 2 year old and told her what happened.  Took her over there right away..her rectal temp was 98.4 her blood glucose was 84 and her hemoglobin was normal.

She said to give her tylenol every 6 hours (or maybe 4? I can't remember so i'm doing 6..) just to keep her temp stable in case it is going up and down.   She's teething...soo that could be why.  I have to bring her back tomorrow evening and they are going to give me an order for a head CT.

Anyones LO's had CT's at this age?  She said they will put her in a heavy duty swaddle and for it to work she can't move her head.  joy.

  •   I'm so sorry.  T & P.

  • I have no experience with this at the age (my sister was epileptic, beginning around age 6) but I wanted you to know you will all be in my prayers.

  • I am so sorry, that is very stressful. My T&P are with u.
  • L had a CT about two weeks ago. They did put her in a swaddle and I had to wear a protective cover and hold her head still. It didn't take long but L was crying and it made me cry. (Ok I'm tearing up now just remembering it.)

My bff's son who is 2 now had a few seizures starting when he was a few months old. I forget what triggered them but he had a few not so serious ones and one bad one. Doctors said he would outgrow whatever caused it, and he hasn't had for about eight months now. It was definitely scary but usually not serious. Sorry I don't remember what it was from.

  • Wow, how scary. Hope all goes well with the CT.
  • I'm glad she's ok. Good luck tomorrow...will be thinking of you both. I wish I had the link, but I've read that sporadic seizures in babies this age are more common than most people would think, and that it is something that most outgrow. I hope this is the case for Peyton.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • Oh my gosh!  I'm so sorry!

My sister had one when she was a baby.  My mom told me how she was in a store at the time and how terrified she was and everyone was surrounding her trying to help.  She never had another one after that.

I hope they figure out what happened!

  • So sorry to hear that.  No experience with MRI/CT but just wanted you to know that you are in my prayers, for sure.  My LO had what we "thought" was a seizure at about 4 weeks old, that we found out was a response to acid reflu.  Weird right?  But there are several cases in which that is how the child responds to painful stimuli, I was seriously freaked out!  I hope your LO is doing good now and I hope its nothing, please update us when you can.

  • I hope it's just a febrile seizure from her temperature being high. They're not uncommon in babies and not dangerous either. Hope it goes well tomorrow. I had to take my son for a chest X ray and it was awful.
  • I don't have any experience but I am thinking about you and baby Peyton and I hope everything is ok.
  • I had frequent feveral seizures as a baby.  I hope your DD is ok.

  • Natalie had CT scans and a MRI when she was about 2 weeks old (multiple seizures - looking for a cause).   They swaddled her and gave her a very mild sedative so that she would not move at all.    GL with everything, I really do know how you must be feeling right now.
  • I can't imagine what you are feeling.  I hope everything turns out okay!

  • I am so sorry!  My DD did when she was about 17 days old and the techs doing the scan were such professionals!  They knew just what to do and helped calm my nerves.  It was not as bad as I thought it would be and DD did great.  I hope that helps!

  • Thank you everyone, for all of your kind words.

She's been really fussy and hungry, even though it's not quite time for her to eat yet.

She downed her juice which normally I have to fight with her.

    sigh.

  • hang in there Mama!    No seizures but I did have quite a few CT's at a very young age, and I'm no worse for the wear!
  • i know you had to be scared to death...hopefully you get nothing but good news tomorrow! T&P's!
  • T & P for you!  DD has an MRI when she was 6 days old and slept through the whole thing.  They told us that if she was awake more, they would have to give her a sedative to make her still.  This was one of the scariest things I ever had to deal with and sent DH in the room with her b/c I couldn't do it.  (She was born with a partial vocal cord paralysis and they wanted to rule out a neurological thing causing it.)  It's scary when they have to do things like this.  I hope things get better for you guys and you get some good news like we did.
