2nd Trimester

Weight Gain at 22 Weeks?

I had a dr's appointment today and it looks like I am up about 12lbs at 22 weeks.  If you don't mind sharing, how much did you all gain by 22 weeks? I feel like I am gaining a little too fast!

Re: Weight Gain at 22 Weeks?

  • I think you are fine!  I had gained 9 1/2 pounds by the end of my 20 weeks.  I am sure it's even more now but I don't weigh myself other then once a month at Dr.'s office.

  • I am up about 15 lbs and will be 20 weeks on Thursday.  This is more than I wanted to gain, and I am trying to stay between 25-30 lbs total, but have had a crazy sweet tooth the past several weeks.  So, for now, I am just trying to get my fill of fruits and veggies and trying not to splurge on baked goods!  I have been baking and having one or two things and taking the rest into the office so I don't keep them around the house :o)
  • I gained just about the same. I am 24 weeks now and have gained about 13 so I don't think it is anything to worry about as long as you and baby are healthy! My baby book kindly reminds me that most weight gain is fluid and baby related gains not fat, so I tend to take comfort in that. Big Smile
  • I was up 13 lbs at 22 weeks..I have no idea what now but i'll find out next week (I dont like scales) The doc told me to slow down but that was because I gained 7lbs in one month..I posted about it and was told 13 isnt a lot for 22 weeks. just that much in a month is so trying to monitor the intake and what I eat :) you should be fine if the doc didnt say anything
  • Probably 5-7 pounds. I'm up 11 now.

  • I am 11 at 19 weeks so don't feel bad! I was good and then it was was almost 6 lbs this month. I was sick in the begining, but I also think it was a bit of comfort food blizzard eating. A pg lady shouldn't be allowed at the store right before a blizzard!
  • 12# sounds fine, it's more the rate you gained it.  If you gained 10# just in the last month, that would probably be more of a concern.
  • I have been eating too many sweets!  Valentine's day didn't really help!
  • I just had an appointment today and have gained 14lbs. total. A typical pregnancy should see a 10-16lb weight gain by this point, so it sounds like you are right on track!

  • at my 19 week appointment, i had gained at least 16 pounds (since my first appointment, which wasn't until 11 weeks).
  • I weighed myself last Wednesday and was up 8 lbs at 21 weeks. I'm pretty sure after the 2 boxes of girl scout cookies I ate this past weekend I'm probably up to about 10-11 lbs total.

I've shared this chart on here before...it's for those who were in a healthy BMI at the beginning of their pregnancy. You'll see it's for a 25-35 lb weight gain. I just have it saved to my desktop and reference it every once in a while. You can see 9-19 lbs is considered within "normal range".

  • about 13 lbs total...but, the last 3 was based on eating sweets and crap only - so, I'm mad at myself...

I'm trying to do better today...also, everyone is different...if you were underweight before getting pregnant you probably should have gained more - ideal weight - you're on track - or if you were overweight, maybe a little more than what they want...

I'm trying to do this myself, but, try to eat healthier for a bit...you'll feel better even if you gain weight...it's much easier said than done...

OMG me too since I up until few weeks ago I had aversion to chocolate & sweets in general but now that my chocolate craving is back it's been tough to stay away.

  • I'm up 13.  I gained 10 in the first tri.  This is the exact same pattern almost to the pound as with my first pregnancy.  I only gained 6 lbs. in the 3rd tri with him.  Hoping it'll be the same.  I'm an early gainer and I taper off as time goes by.  Don't stress. :)  Eat health, exercise, and you'll be just fine!
  • Up 8 pounds at my 21wk 3 days.
  • I'll be 23 weeks this Thursday and still haven't gained a pound.  The dr has just told me I could start my upward trend anytime now, I'm eating plenty, and have a bump, just haven't gained any weight yet.
  • I was up 3 pounds at 22 weeks.

  • You are doing great.  Don't worry about it at all.

I think I was up about 12 pounds at my 22 week appt but that was just the weight gain from 8 - 22 weeks.  At home right now I'm up 18 from the day I found out I was pregnant.  Its no fun, but if I gain the normal 1 pound a week from here on out, I'll be at 35 pounds total.  I really don't want to go over that 35 pound mark!!

  • As of my 20 week appt I had gained 2 lbs (no scale at home).

Here's a helpful link.  Keep in mind that it's just a general guideline.  Everyone gains differently.

  • At 21w I gained 4 lbs. At 25w I gained 8 lbs...

  • Still negative and I'll be 22 weeks tomorrow...although I'm still on the pace I should be on and hopefully next week will break even.

  • I'm up 11lbs at just over 22 weeks. You are right on track and in the "normal" range according to most weight charts.

My MW would like me to gain 35-40lbs total as well...I'm aiming for 25-30, but we'll see!
