1st Trimester

looks like i'm JUST getting a pap today

After researching and asking around A LOT (not just here), I decided to go ahead and get a pap at my first pre natal appt, which is today.

I called the office to find out what they'd be doing.  The answer was a pap, Q&A, and PNV script.

So, no u/s, no bloodwork.

This is really ticking me off because I wish people would lay off my cervix.  If this pregnancy isn't viable, I want to wait until I'm due for my next pap (March).

This.  A pap is totally normal in early pregnant so I don't get why you are so upset about it....

  • If you've read her previous posts, she has an extensive gyn. history and if I remember correctly her next sched. pap in March is a 6 month post cancer screening pap.

I would be annoyed to if people kept jamming things up my va-j-j even for a good cause.

  • yeah, sorry, but a pap is very normal.  my good friend is an ob and she said confirmed that it is important.  I got chekced for 3 things when I went, and I felt better going.
  • Hopefully it's a quick & painless one.

  • I'm not worried about actually getting a pap.  That's NBD.  But I feel like the order of this whole thing makes no sense.

    Wait 8 weeks.

Then have a pap (which I am NOT due for).

Then go on a PNV (I've been on one for years, but maybe some people don't know to take PNV's before their doc tells them to...maybe).

    Then confirm viability.

Couldn't my doctor have faxed me a PNV script early on?  Or sent me for a blood test prior to my appt today so we could review the results?  This is what would've been done on any other routine physical.

  • I don't even have a PNV script.  I just take over the counter and no not everyone is on one already.  Some people were not expecting to get pregnant.

They don't usually review the bloodwork with you unless there is something to be concerned about.  Your appt. sched. sounds normal.  I've never had to come in early for blood work, they just take it while I'm there and call me later if there's a problem.

I just thought you were upset because you've been poked and jabbed a lot already in the past year.

  • It is kind of weird that they're not doing blood work.  When I went in, my GP had 6 vials drawn, then, my OB had another 5 vials for various tests.  Maybe they'll order the blood work when you go in for your pap??

I did not have bloodwork drawn at my fist appointment. I'll have it at my second appointment (at 12 weeks).

  • I've already been to my OB four times during this pregnancy, and at my last appointment she was going to do the pap but told me she didn't want to take the chance of causing unnecessary bleeding because i'd been on progesterone.  there are doctors who don't give them right away.  and my first pregnancy i'd had one done the month before, so my gyno's report on it was all they needed.   just sayin', it's not EVERY doctor's practice to give one right away.

If this is the case, you should be grateful for every last little bit of help and double checking they do.

Ugh, that sucks! Can you request they wait until March when you're further along? If they don't take your concerns into consideration, it may be time to look around for a different doctor, unfortunately.

I've always had bloodwork be the first thing they do when I go in for appointments, that really doesn't make sense they aren't doing it. Sorry you have to go through all this!
