Just wondering if a doctor would strip your membranes and not tell you?
I don't have a problem with having them stripped, but I'm just thinking that has to be what he did. Had an appointment this morning, I'm a fingertip dilated and 70-80% effaced. I'm at 39w3d (ticker is a day off). My last internal was 2 weeks ago (thanks to last weeks snow storm). It didn't bother me at all. This one he was up in there for longer and it HURT- he was really feeling around. I've been having cramping since the appointment (no bleeding, though).
Re: Stripping membranes- would your doc not tell you?
generally i think they ask ahead of time. at least mine did (both times i was stripped).
also she told me the first time she couldnt get a good strip b/c i was only a fingertip and usually she would use 2 fingers for it. the first time it was done was INSANELY painful (everyone in the office got to hear me scream) so im pretty sure you would know if thats what was done but i could be wrong...?
Mine did it and didn't tell me ahead of time. I was pissed, because I didn't WANT my membranes stripped, and long story short, it caused me a very miserable labour.
Just curious as to how having your membranes stripped caused a miserable labor? I don't think I've heard of that happening before.
Thank you ladies for your thoughts. Still not sure whether or not he did it - you'd think he would've mentioned it. I looked at my chart and couldn't read his writing if you paid me! Between the cramps from that and my stomach just being a bit of a mess today, who knows.
