Flying with water for baby?

We'll be flying in March and I was wondering about pre-boiled water for babies.  The TSA website talks about formula and breastmilk, but doesn't specifically say it's okay to bring sterilized water.  Obviously, I'm not going to use nasty airport tap water and we're on Alimentum and were told not to pre-mix.

Can we bring water?

  • Will bottled water suffice? If so, I'd buy a bottle of water once you're through security.

  • I doubt you'll be able to bring it. I'd use bottled water if you're that worried, but if it were me, I'd use the "nasty" tap water.

  • I would just use bottled water. We do that on the go all the time.

  • I flew w/ DS1 two years ago and did what you are suggesting...took bottles with pre-measured water in them to mix formula in later.  They gave me no problems with it b/c it was obviously for the baby.

About to fly w/ DS2 soon and plan on doing the same thing.  Although, I am thinking of just getting the 8oz. cans of ready-to-feed Alimentum (yes, we're lucky enough to be on it too!) to put in the bottles.

  • We just flew from Germany to Chicago and I had a big bottle of water and a smaller bottle of water, both sealed still, and it was no problem.  I brought almost double of what I thought I would need.  They just looked to see if they were sealed then just put it right back in the bag.
