Babies: 9 - 12 Months

what did your baby sleep in as newborn?

I am debating getting a bassinet as seems so pricey, what did everyone's baby sleep in as a newborn and at what point do they switch to the crib?

Thanks!

  • Bassinet part of the PNP. She slept in that until she was 15 lbs then I moved her to her crib
  • This. We moved him to the crib at about 11 weeks.
  • Borrowed bassinet. I think we put him in his crib full-time at about 2 months or a little earlier. He was not a tiny baby, and he was getting too long for it.

You can put them in the crib from the first day. There's nothing dangerous about it.

  • Bassinet occasionally but our bed most of the time. We moved her to her crib at six months.
  • We had a Pack N Play set up in our bedroom. It had the bassinet part on top along with a changing table that folded out, and now we use it as a play pen/place to sleep when we are at Grandma's house. It is a lifesaver!

  • We had a PNP with a bassinet in the top and used that. We knew we would transfer her to her crib after 4-6 weeks. It worked great for us.

  • A bassinet that's been in FI's family for years.

  • We used a bassinet and the bassinet part of the PNP.  We used the bassinet downstairs because it was smaller and less obtrusive.  We used the PNP in our bedroom until she was about 4 months old and then she went to her crib.

  • I didnt want to get one either - that being said, we received one for our shower and I figured we'd put it to use.  I have to admit that I loved having him in the bassinet at my bedside.  He slept there during the overnights and napped in a pnp during the day.  I'd say he stayed in the bassinet until we moved him into his crib at around 6-7 weeks or so and believe it or not we all slept better after the first night when he did fine and I felt terrible! :)
  • we had a bassinet in our room that we used for about 3 months then she started sleeping in her crib. I loved it because I could easily roll it to the living room, dining room, bathroom or kitchen without waking her up.
  • DD slept in the newborn napper in her Graco PnP. Its curved and soft and comfy. She slept there until 3 mo when she transitioned to her crib. I would not recommend this. DD has still not adjusted to sleeping flat and her crib mattress is now elevated at the head and foot. Next time I will have LO sleep on the flat bassinet part of the PnP or put them in the crib from the beginning, but put the crib in our room.

  • She's slept in the crib in her own room since we brought her home from the hospital at three days old.

  • PNP, ds didn't move to his crib till he was 6 mo.
  • He had to sleep on a bilibed for the first week at home because he was jaundiced.  He then slept in his PnP next to our bed half the time and with me in my bed the other half.  I cosleep/bedshared with him for the first 2 months.  I moved him to his crib at 9 weeks without difficulty.  He actually slept 100X better in his crib than with me....he started to STTN in his own room within the first couple nights.

  • He slept in his Little Lamb swing 95% of the time. Either that or on the couch/in our bed curled up next to me.

That swing saved all our lives, I swear.

We did exactly this. When we transitioned DS to the crib we didn't have any problems with him getting "used to his own bed". HTH!

In the end, you will know what is right for you and your LO. ;)

  • He slept about 2/3 of the time in a bassinet in our room, 1/3 of the time in our bed.  We made the transition the crib at 10 weeks (at this time he was only getting up once or twice at night instead of every 2 hours or so).

If I could go back I would not get a bassinet, though they're pretty, who cares....  I wish I'd gotten a co-sleeper, since he often ended up in bed with us anyway.  Get a co-sleeper.

  • borrowed bassinet until she was 3 months.. then the crib.. it was nice to have her bedside, and our bedroom is not near big enough for a pack n play- if you're planning on PNP, then go for a nice one with the newborn napper- or bassinet attachment-

  • Bassinet we borrowed from my aunt -he slept in it until 6 months.

  • Amby bed (baby hammock) for the first four months, except that he used it mostly for naps because he usually ended up in our bed at night.  Now we co-sleep at night and he naps in his crib.

  • We had an old fashioned cradle from when DH was baby. DS slept in it til he was about 3 months old. We moved him to the crib when I went back to work. We have a PNP but DS wouldn't sleep in it until just a few weeks ago (about 5 months old).

  • DS slept in the basinett part of the PNP in our room, until about 2 mos, when he outgrew the basinett part.  Then we put him in the pnp on the first layer, until 4 mos, when we moved him into his crib in his room. He actually starting sleeping longer in his room!! Went from 8-9 hrs to 11-12 hrs in his crib.
  • He slept in a bassinet, then our bed, then a crib side-carred (with one side removed) with our bed. He hated the pnp bassinet, its not comfy.
