NBR: Need good vacuum cleaner recommendations

I need to go get a good vacuum that's not $300. There's so many, It's hard to choose one. I'll take any recommendations! Thanks!

I LOVE my oreck. It is so lightweight, I can carry it up and down the stairs with no problem!

We bought this one a few months ago. There are only 2.5 stars on Target's website but we've been very pleased with it. Carpet to bare floors with one turn of the dial, retractable cord, stairs attachment (which we desperately needed), and best of all, no filters!

It's normally super expensive, but I got a Dyson Animal Hair vacuum off craigslist for $150. The guy was moving and was trying to sell everything. It's the best vacuum I've ever used.

We have the Bissell Pet Cyclonic upright vacuum. It's ~$150 and does a good job of getting up our pet hair (2 dogs, 2 cats) and anything tracked through the house. The attachments are fun. I recommend going shopping in a store for one and picking them up and trying out the attachments. We did this and chose ours over a more expensive one because the more expensive one actually cut my thumb : P

I know they're pricey, but we watched for a good sale and got a Dyson ball. It is the best vacuum I've ever had, and the ones I've used before were high end Electrolux passed to me from my mom. It didn't even clog sweeping up a load of pine needles after Christmas!
