what are the links between BF & dry, flaky skin on baby?

My baby has had dry skin since he was born -- right now, we are dealing with cradle cap and lots of dry patches on his face and fingers...they are scaling a little and peeling.

I've been BF and FF since day  one...

does breastmilk exclusively prevent the dry skin? does it contribute to it?

I thought I read somewhere that there was some kind of correalation but am not sure.

    I never heard of a link.  I have exclusively BF all three of my kids and DD #1 had horrible skin... super dry, bad cradle cap.  DD #2 had great skin.  DS is somewhere in the middle but closer to #2 in skin type.

    i dont think there is a link cuz i EBF and my son has flaky, dry skin/scalp that is horrible

    I'm thinking the weather isn't helping our poor babies.  I EBF and my DS has patches of dry skin on his head and it took forever for his face to look good again.  His poor hands are all chapped no matter how much lotion I put on them.  His ped told me that the dry, cold winter weather makes the dry skin last longer than if it was warmer.

    Eczema & BFing can be a dairy or food allergy, but it sounds like you are just dealing with dryness.

    If your baby was late, they can have peeling skin in the beginning. Something about the placenta dying. J was 8 days late and his skin was gross for the first 2 weeks. His skin is gorgeous now, And he is like 95 percent bf.

    Yes, we had a late baby with flaky skin and the pedi told us there was nothing to do but let it peel and resolve itself - which it eventually did. He told us he usually goes away by 4 weeks and it did.

    I BF all 3 of my boys, DS #3 had cradle cap on his eyebrows and 2 small spots on his head.  Dr said its because of BF and the Hormones that is still being passed on to him.  GL we are still fighting the cradle cap!!!
