Babies: 9 - 12 Months

My FFFC

I just found out my younger sister is pregnant. Normally I would be happy for any one of my siblings but this particular sister should not be having a child. At 16 she was heavily involved with drugs and was diagnosed with Bi-polar disorder and a personality disorder. Obviously when she was evaluated the drugs she was on impared the evaluation. Anyways, she is 21 and has worked maybe 6 months in her life, my Mom constantly babys her, she sleeps all day and cleans my Moms house when she feels like it. My Mother enables the situation completely. My sister does not have a savings, no credit, just started to make her own doctors appointments, she just got her drivers license a couple of months ago but does not have a car to transport her baby.

Her b/f is in the Marines and as soon as he is done school in April they plan to get married. So that means she will move more then likely to Florida or California away from any help that I know she will need. I know that military wives stick together so I am hoping she will get the support she needs. I don't know how she is going to do this and honestly I dont think she can handle this. I put my big girl panties on and act happy and supportive around her but I am truly just shocked and unhappy. Im sure I will get flammed for being a biitch but Im pretty much use to it, I just needed to vent.

Re: My FFFC

  • Sounds like you are genuinely concerned for her, I don't see anything flameworthy about that. I hope she gets the support she needs, and also grows up now that she is going to be a mother.

  • Well, whether she acts like it or not, she and her man are adults.  I think you should just accept it and let it go...she may surprise you.
  • It sounds like a tough situation and I am not going to flame you.  I just wanted to recommend some things you can inform her about for if/when they get married.  DH is Navy and the Marines and the Navy have similar programs (since technically the Marines are a division of the Navy, but I don't recommend telling that to a Marine lol).  Tell her that Fleet and Family Support Services has bunches of help.  Navy Marine Corps Relief Society is a great organization and has tons of classes and programs to help families budget and learn money management.  There are lots of classes hosted by NMCRS that deal with preparing for baby as well.  Many military families qualify for WIC.  There's bunches of help if she and her Marine seek it out.  Good luck to her sister.
