24 hour urine at 13 weeks!

I had no idea that they would ever request it this soon. I went to the lab for some other testing and they informed me that my peri had requested it way back on the 20th of Jan. I had no idea until today.

So now I am tied to the house all day tomorrow so I can pee in a cup and put it in the fridge. FUN!!!

Re: 24 hour urine at 13 weeks!

  • They are likely getting a baseline by which to measure any future levels against - I also had one right at 12/13 weeks for that reason.

  • I got my first one at 14w.

  • Well it's good your at home. I was in hospital doing the 24-hour pee. Not fun peeing in cup, but worth it in the end.Good luck,
  • I'm on my second...it's so fun!  (sarcastic, of course.)  It's much easier to keep it in a cooler by the bathroom, by the way, especially if you go a lot like me.  GL!
  • My first 24-hour urine was at 19 weeks; they put me in the hospital overnight for it. Be glad you can do it at home! :)

From 29 weeks on, I did one a week while I was on hospital bedrest.

  • I did one around that time for a baseline at home.  I did a second one last week in the hospital.  It's not a bad thing.  It's just your doctor making sure that everything is ok.
  • oh wow, I never thought they would make you go to the hospital for one. why do they do it that way?
  • I just had to do one at 16w.  I had to do it while I was at work... what a day haha!  I am sure there will be at least one more 24hr urine in my future.
  • I had my 24 hour urine in the hospital the second time because I had just gone in for an appointment.  My BP was up earlier in the week and went in for a follow-up.  When I got there my BP was still a little up and they found protein in my urine for the first time.  My doctor put me in the hospital not just because of the 24 hour urine, but to monitor me and the baby overnight and to see what was up. I was also being monitored for pre-e.  In result my BP had gone down and it was strict bed rest for me the rest of my pregnancy ordered to help prevent pre-e as long as possible.

I was given the orders to get the 24 urine test earlier in the week, but was not going to do it until the weekend because it was easier.

If your doctor orders a 24 hour urine from home get it done or some will put you in the hospital to get it done.
