I am not looking to do this, but I was just reading this section in TCOYF and was curious if anyone actually practiced this. I think it would be very tricky to time it just right since you are supposed to have sex so far in advance of ovulation.
EDIT I should have said shettles method for a girl.

I think it is true, but since DS was an accident it wasn't on purpose. (I always know when I ovulate because I cramp like crazy the day of, then my period starts 14 days later.)
It would be very hard to time for a girl, but easier to time for a boy I would think.

I know of one friend that succeeded and another that didn't. I feel like after so many months of charting, I bet I could probably time it correctly. That would really test the method.
I am at the point where I can pinpoint ovulation almost perfectly because I am so aware.
I love that you are reading TCOYF. I still refer back to it. It's like the TTC bible
It's all very fascinating to me.
Might be a stupid question but what it TCOYF?
Oh and we weren't trying for one or the other but had sex when I ovulated and had a boy
ETA: Nevermind, figured it out
I read it back when I was trying with Larsen and the second baby, but I never charted with either. I am charting this month and I was just refreshing my memory a bit. It is so helpful!

My best friend from high school did it with both her kids and was successful both times--she had a boy first and then a girl, just like she wanted.
I do have to wonder how the Shettles method explains boy/girl multiples.
same here. I couldn't convince DH to do it the day I O'd so we had sex the day before and 2-3 days later and I got BFP that first cycle.
Same here!
Me too - twice!
We weren't trying - but it worked for DS. We had sex the day before and the day of O.
Now with this one I think it could be either. We had sex 3 days before and the day before.
No, because the sperm is all injected right there... it's not traveling all the way up to the egg.
If I'm remembering correctly, the idea is that "boy" sperm travels faster, while "girl" sperm travels slower but stays around longer. So using this theory, if you have sex a couple days before O, then the "boy" sperm is already gone but the "girl" sperm is there waiting for the egg to drop. If you have sex the day of O, the "boy" sperm can get up to the egg right away, but the "girl" sperm will be too slow to get to the egg before it's gone.
Hope that makes sense.
ETA: To answer the OP, we're not sure if it worked for us or not, because we had sex almost every day leading up to O and two days after.
