So I am back to work (have for 1 month now) and have been pumping every three hours during the day and just recently cut out the middle of the night pump. I pump when at work and then nurse all the rest of the time.
For the past week I have been having issues with my right boob not wanting to 'let down'. Only thing that works is my sweet Aidan nursing. Well the past two nights even nursing my son isn't working. This one spot on my right boob just won't empty. When I pump I only get half and ounce to an ounce every time. Even durring the day when I should be making so much more! I am sure Aidan gets more than that when he nurses that side as I hear him swallowing. If I can't get my right boob to empty is it possible it could dry up and the other boob be fine? I know boobs work independently. That's why one always makes an ounce or so more than the other.
I've tried heating pad, standing in the shower, IBuprophen (how ever you spell it) and nursing as often as I can but working a full time job I can't nurse him. Durring the weekends I nurse 100% to help with supply issues and also becasue I love it!
I am worried about this as it's painful during the day at work and then by the time I pick him up from daycare and get home to nurse him (cause I am dying) he gets full too fast because he ate within the last hour at day care so I don't get fully emptied.
Any others having this issue?
Re: Right boob just won't get with it!
Can you try massaging it during nursing/pumping? Sounds like that side is prone to a clog maybe? Massage helped when I had clogs. You are still getting half an ounce to an ounce from that breast alone though? That does not seem too bad. But the hard spots remaining after pumping lead me to believe clogged duct. Keep up with the heat and massage. If you can see a clog in the nipple (like a bleb) there are suggestions on kellymom on how to help that. It can take over a week for a clog to resolve though.
Try to make your last pumping session at work closer to the time he has his last bottle at daycare maybe? So you are not so uncomfortable?
