LO and I were at TJ Maxx today and when we went to the cashier to check out she said, "He is so sweet! How old is he?" I told her he was just about 5 weeks old. Then she said, "Is he yours?"
Side note, I have dark skin but I am mixed, my mom is white and my dad is black. DH is white. So DS is 1/4 black. Meaning he looks white.
I wanted to say, "No, I stole him from that white lady over there..."
Arg. Who asks a lady with a baby if it is hers?

Re: My first skin color related comment...
I know exactly what you mean! I am white and my BF is mixed so our son is also 1/4 black but he just looks like he has a great tan . . people are always asking my BF if he is his son . . its aggravating!!
Some kids do have nannies who take them out...

I'm sure that's why she looked at me like I had three heads when I said he was mine, because she thought I was his nanny!
I don't know! Why can't they just say, "Cute baby!"
Cute baby!
"Wow, that was rude. You must be so embarrassed!" My favourite comeback.
Also- cute baby.
I don't know that it's necessarily skin color related, unless she said it was...
my kids are the spit & image of me... there's no denying them... and I've been asked if they're mine if we're out during the workday.
He is a cute baby!
I'm half Asian (from my dad) and I remember in kindergarten being asked if I was adopted by a friend who saw my mom picking me up. Another time, when we were in Mexico, a shop owner followed me around trying to speak to me in Japanese (which I don't speak, I'm half-Filipino) and when I went to my mom in the store and started talking to her, he didn't believe she was my mom at first. We don't look much alike, obviously
We have found the humor in the situations and it's never bothered her (outwardly, at least) or me, but I can see why you'd be frustrated or offended by it.
