Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

would you take your LO to a hibachi restaurant?

I'm nervous about two things:

1) shellfish.  I'm a self-admitted crazy parent about keeping DD away from shellfish.  My bro has an allergy and I'd like to wait  until she's at least 2 or 3 before she tries it. They always cook the shrimp first, so it contaminates the entire grill, right?

2) the flames!  I feel like I'm going to lose my eyebrows, I can't imagine DD will be comfortable.

 What do you all think?

  • I probably wouldn't.

  • At this age, no. Maybe when he's 2ish and can sit through a meal that lasts more than 5 minutes!
  • They cook the veggies and stuff first, not the shellfish. I always order shrimp and lobster and am usually the last one to get my food.

My kid was a little freaked by the flames but that quickly subsided when we stuffed her full of veggies and rice.

  • We have taken our son to one a couple of times and he LOVED it!  I push his chair away from the table during the part where they set everything on fire and he has always been fine.  I would go there every time we go out if I could because the cooking keeps him so entertained it is actually a relaxing meal out for me.  We don't have any shellfish allergies in our family, so that is not something that I have worried about with him.  Would it be possible to order something else off the menu for your daughter and then just plan not to feed her any of the food they prepare in front of you?  The restaurant that we go to has other items on the menu that can be ordered in addition to the prepared meal.

I wish my place did that!  They always cook the shrimp "appetizer" (the one they fling at you and you're supposed to catch in your mouth) first where we go.
  • ike loves it!  He's been several times and i wish we went more often, it's the only restuarant we can go to that i can eat a relatively hot meal because ike's so entertained i can scarf down my food :o)

Ordering something from the menu is a great idea.  And I didn't think about the cooking actually entertaining DD.  I'm sure she would love it.  thanks!
  • I was nervous about this as well, we went last week (w/out ds) and there were 3 little kids at our table.  they were mesmerized by the cook & the flames, so yes, we will probably take Max with us next time.

  • DD loves the hibachi!  I agree with pp that it's a little more relaxing for me because she's entertained, and also because there are other people for her to watch.

  • Sydney has been twice.  She hates the flames.  She cries.  We tried once when she was younger, 5-6 months old, and again when she was 1ish...FAIL both times.
  • i would. i think we are going to take her on sunday there
