After taking inventory of PJ's clothes I've realized that he has next to no Newborn items. I have plenty of 0-3 and on up even to 18 months but only 3 newborn outfits...I also have only 1 newborn and no 0-3 Sleep & Plays. I have lots of onesies(no pants) in short and long sleeve from size 0-3 on up but I'm wondering if I should get another pack of newborn sleep & plays and a few more in size 0-3...PJ has ton's of outfits for going out and looking awesome but not much to sleep in...I should add that the sets are a combo of Gerber, which I hear can run small, and Carter.
Re: Moms: Buy more newborn?
I would buy at least 1 - 5pack of Carters onesies in NB, and otherwise wait to see how big he is before you invest in more sleep and plays or anything else.
JMO.
Thanks!
I agree. Willaim was in nbs for maybe 2 weeks. He's so chunky!!!
I would at least get one pack of onesies and maybe a sleeper or two but keep the tags and receipts until you see if you need them. Aubrey was in NB for about 5-6 weeks but every baby is different.
Oh and yes Gerber runs small...and Carter runs a tad big...or at least that's been my experience.
And one more piece of (unsolicited) advice.
Payton wore NB stuff until 8 weeks, BUT we pretty much only wore onesies and outfits. No playstuff or sleepers. She wouldn't sleep unless she was swaddled, so we bought some some NB and 0-3 t-shirts and she wore those and socks at night with her swaddle blanket. It was easier to change her diaper at night without having to snap up onesies or sleepers. So you might want to invest in some of those and then pick up swaddle blankets. Payton fights the swaddle, but it's the only way she sleeps consistently for long periods. She's 3 months and for the past 3 weeks has been sleeping 10 hours a stretch.
I would buy more newborn stuff, because I had next to none and ended up buying some sleep and plays and such. I loved the gowns for sleeping (Houdini could never be swaddled). J wore newborn size stuff for the first month.
Off topic, but I guess I'm in the minority because we had J out and about at 3 days old. He was born in May so it wasn't sick season, which I guess would have been a different story.
ETA: J was 8#4oz but was so long that nothing but newborn fit his tiny hiney. And, ditto the pp about keeping the tags/receipts.
We have done the same when we had a few warmer nights, but she spends her days in SNPs. They are just easier, and there is no since in a fussy outfit when she is just going to the sitters.
Madi was born at 5 lbs 14 ozs, so she is a tiny mite. She is just now really filling out NB sizes at 9 lbs.
We did not buy any NB clothes before DD was born because we honestly thought she was going to be a lot larger. We had a few 0-3 gowns/onesies but that was it.
We expected DD to be 9-pounds plus, but she ended up only being 7 lbs, 14 oz. My SIL ended up getting her a pack of 2 NB sleep n play footy pajamas, plus a pack of girly NB onesies and some NB pants. DD ended up wearing those NB clothes until she was about 6 weeks old. Looking back, I'm so greatful we had them because otherwise K would have been swamped in her 0-3 clothes for a while.
I would suggest getting a few basics, but don't take the tags off or wash them until after you DC is here and you know whether he will wear them or not.

I'll throw in my .02... Kid was 7lb 10oz and long and was still able to wear preemie in the very beginning and NB for the first month. I didn't want him drowning in his clothes. Fwiw, he hated being swaddled and hated gowns. We also took him out all the time, so we used a lot of NB clothes and footed pjs.
