DH is changing jobs.

He is going back to selling cars. Its a different place than where he worked before..
He really LIKES where he is working now, and they actually offered him a promotion, but we're pretty certain that he can make more money back at the cars..and the insurance will undoubtedly be cheaper and better. We are hoping he can maybe keep 1 shift a week just as a sales guys at his current job, so that way it will just be extra money.. (Insurance was eating up like 40-50% of his pay there before).
It is a good thing, I THINK.. I am just really nervous about the change and starting over. And although overall, he will probably make more in the car business, its a lot more unpredictable/fluxuating...which makes it difficult to plan
To complicate things further, there is a third job that he has been interviewing for, for something completely different that has a HUGE potential for income in the future, but seems like it will be difficult to start out in.. so depending on what happens there, he might end up switching AGAIN within a couple months..
*gulp*..I hope this all works out.. I know my husband is a good salesman.. but sometimes I wish he could just get a basic salaried job so we could at least have some stability and know what we're getting going in..

Re: DH is changing jobs.

  • That is exciting and scary at the same time. I hope that either of the two options works out for him and for you. Whatever happened to the job with his Dad? Wasn't that supposed to come with his degree?

Yes, but as I kind of suspected, that was a lot of talk.. The company isn't actually doing all that well currently, so they couldn't bring him on in sales while they're laying people off in production. It could still potentially happen in the future.. His dad and his dads boss actually helped him a lot with networking to get these other two potential jobs.. so they did at least help him with the job situation

  • Good luck - my DH is sorta the same when it comes to income. His salary is pitiful as an attorney (as in just covering our living expenses and his disgusting amount of student loans) but he makes money on cases he brings in to the firm. So he could go a year just making his salary or he could make well beyond that if cases settle. It's super hard to plan...we'd like to buy a new house soon but we just don't know when, 1yr or 5yrs? But, we do like when "chunks" of money come in so we can pay down stuff faster...I'm assuming sales is sorta the same way.

I hope he's not going to work for Toyota!

I can't believe that % for insurance...stuff like that makes me really mad when I hear people talk about not needing health care reform.

  • hehe.. no.. not toyota.. I will tell you ladies where it is once he actually starts.. :)
And yes, the insurance thing is ridiculous there.. His job didn't really cover any of the insurance.. it was offered but we paid 100%.. and the worst part was, is it was not really even very good insurance, for us, at least.

  • i hope it works out for you guys.  i really hope the insurance is better.
  • Good luck Melissa.  I hope that it will all work out.  I know how stressful the DH job situation can be!

  • Good luck. I definitely know how job instability can really mess with your mind. I hope the insurance is much better at the other job. That's what bothers me about some private insurances - what's the point of having it when it doesn't cover anything?
  • Change is scary but can be so worth it.  Lots of luck to your DH in whatever job path he takes!

  • well congrats to him! I hear you about the insurance.... DH got a new job last year and even though the pay was better, the benefits were crappy. I picked up the insurance until I left my job, and now we are on his...  his family coverage was sooo expensive. He just started back at his old job last week, and they wanted him to come back so they offered to pick up the cost of healthcare 100% for the first 90 days (and started our coverage from day 1) and after than it is almost 1/2 the cost of the old place, and better coverage. It's such a relief... it was such a huge cost to us every month!
  • Good luck.  I hope it all works out
