Illinois Babies

baby shower location

Hi!

My family wants to host a co-ed shower for me but I know that funds are limited.  I'm trying to find options for them that would be appropriate but won't break the bank.  Anyone have any suggestions?  It would be great if they can bring food in themselves and obviously man "friendly."

Re: baby shower location

  • Have you looked into renting a room at the park district.  My sister-in-laws baby shower was at their park district.  They had a great room and my MIL was able to bring in her own food/catered items.  Since they were residents, they got a certain rate.  Might be a cost effective option for you.

  • One of my showers is being hosted in the party suite of our highrise downtown. Not sure where you live but if you or someone you know lives in a highrise, that might be an option.
  • Thanks for the replies!  I looked into the Park District but Chicago park district rentals are quite expensive and they make you use their caterers for the foood :(  We thought about the high rise as we have some friends in them but DH doesn't want to go that route because the two that we could use are both in high traffic areas (downtown & LP) neither of them have good parking options and many of our friends will be coming from various suburbs.  I thought about a near north suburb, i.e. Evanston, but haven't found anything yet.

    Any other thoughts??

  • Do any of your family or close friends live in an apartment complex or community where there is a clubhouse available to use?  One baby shower I'm attending soon is at the clubhouse of the apartment complex and it's beautiful...and fairly affordable too.

Otherwise, I hear the new "trend" lately is to have the baby shower at the expecting mother's home, that way it's easier for her to put everything away without worrying about driving it around, unloading, etc.  It also makes it a bit more easier for her to walk around comfortably or change clothes if need be to get more cozy AND guests get to maybe even see a "sneak peak" of the nursery! ;)

     Good luck!

  • Thanks again, that is definitely a suggestion; but does anybody know a restaurant or room rental?  I think that's what we are leaning towards.  Definitely can't have it in our little condo. :)
