I have looked at so many different philoshopies on this and there does not seem to be a clear cut answer as to which is more beneficial? Obviously there has been success with both but just curious which did you have and do you think one is better over the other?

Re: 3 Day vs. 5 Day Transfer
I've done 3 day 5 transfers, at 2 different clinics. I don't know if one is better then the other, really. I think the quality of the lab becomes much, much more important for a 5dt though, apparently the embroys are much harder to grow in a lab to blasts.
The real benefit to day 5 is that you have a better idea of quality, so you can pick the best, and usually transfer less embroys, lessening the risk of HOM. However, if you don't have a lot of embroys, or the RE is more comfortable with 3dt, I wouldn't worry about doing a 3dt - there are PLENTY of successes that way too!
My clinic does 5 days if you have many embryos to choose from. The longer they let them grow, the better they can distinguish the good from the bad, and find out which ones make it to blast stage and have a higher chance of being normal. If you only have 2-3, it's sometimes best to do a 3 day, since they say your uterus is a better home than a petri dish. We only had 3 embies and one was poor quality, so we transferred them all on a 3dt.
Overall, the studies show equal results between the two. It really just depends on how many embryos you have.
THIS!
See my siggy for all my transfers. #1 was a day 2 transfer since I only had 2 embies, #2 & 4 were day 3s and #3 was a day 5 since I had so many embies (but they all turned out to be crappy, I had none to freeze).
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
Great explanation once again yoda! Thanks

I have done 2 5dt and for me, I would never consider a 3dt.
I had low embie numbers (4 and 5) but my RE wanted to push out to day 5 both cycles.
I am glad he did b/c we learned that my embies crap out on day 4 - even if they look good on day 3. So, had we done a 3dt, we may have risked putting back a poor embie.
Here are my stats:
IVF #1 - 4 fertilized, all 4 normal on day 3, 1 crapped out on day 4
IVF #2 - 5 fertilized, all 5 were awesome on day 3 (all above 8 cells), 3 crapped out on day 4.
So, for me, a 3dt would have been to risky.
Thanks L
