Sunday night, my apartment neighbor stayed up all.night.long talking loudly. I was up till 4 am. Monday night, I was so exhausted I slept great. Last night, I got two hours of sleep, then woke up needing to use the restroom. Couldn't get back to sleep because my neighbor again was talking loudly and using his stupid Nextel cell phone to walky talky. At 4 am, I finally hauled my mattress out into the living room. Didn't work--I couldn't get back to sleep. Part of the problem is the neighbor, but part of the problem seems to be insomnia. I've never had problems sleeping, and I don't know what to do. It's the most frustrating feeling in the world to just lay there for hours not being able to sleep. Have any of you girls gone through this with the pregnancy? And is there anything I can do? I have a job that requires me to be very mentally alert, and I'm sitting for the bar exam in two weeks on top of that. I need my sleep, dammit!
Re: Help! I Can't Sleep!!
Unfortunately, I don't sleep ... well, my sleep is broken ... at this point, I pretty much sleep in 2 - 3 hour blocks and then I'm awakened by the need to pee ... then I'm up ... I lay back down and can't get comfortable. I toss and turn. So, I then try to sleep on the couch in the livingroom. I might be able to sleep a couple of more hours and then I'm uncomfortable or awakened by the need to pee ... then I try going back into the bedroom to sleep ... uncomfortable, toss and turn but I recognize that at the time, the couch was no better ... I stick it out for a while and I finally fall asleep ... this goes on for the entire night.
Sorry I'm no help. I do however try to take naps whenever I can.
Hmm... maybe time to look for a new place to live or just wait until the baby comes and "payback" your neighbor for keeping you awake all night.
I am having trouble sleeping but mostly because I am uncomfortable or have to pee.
For me, it has just gotten worse the further along I get. My back hurts, I can't get comfortable, I am hungry, thirsty, have to pee, can't breathe through my nose and can't stand mouth breathing, and every little sound wakes me up. I just tell myself it is my body preparing me for being up with the baby. I think we just have to suck it up and get used to lack of sleep.
I can't sleep because I'm uncomfortable. My back hurts, I still get migraines, I have to pee constantly, my belly is of course huge so I can't sleep on my belly, I seem to have gotten RLS somehow just from being pregnant, and oh, lets not forget the constant heartburn. I actually started crying last night because I was so frustrated.
My doctor did just give me the go ahead to take Tylenol PM everynight if I wanted to. She said it's just Tylenol with Benadryl so there is no harm to little on or me.
Payback for the neighbor will definitely come!
Unfortunately, that's pretty much the attitude that I've taken ... this is just the way its gonna be ...
As for your neighbors, I would definitely complain to management. Type a formal letter (include the date and times that the noise continued) so that it goes into their file. Every time it happens, do the same (complain to management and then hand them the letter - lets them know you mean business). There are often specific "quiet time" hours in apartment complexes ... I would find out what they are and reference them in your letter in addition to the noise ordnance in your city.
When I lived in an apartment, I had to do this and it was definitely effective.
