throw rugs on top of carpet

what are your thoughts?  tacky?  okay when done right?

we have a berber carpet in the nursery that is kind of cream-ish colored with specks of browns here and there.  i was considering a purple shag rug for the middle of the room but can't decide whether or not i think it will suck.  this decision may or may not be made for me based on whether target still has the rug in purple or what.  there is a small rug (think bathmat sized) that matches our bedding that i like - i thought about just getting that for in front of the dresser/changer or the crib or something.. i don't know.

so IN GENERAL - yay or nay on the rug on top of carpet?

my cool cat - er, bunny!

  • I think it's fine. I do it All the time. We have almost white carpet so it protects especially high traffic areas.

  • I think it's fine. We have all hard wood except for our basement which has wall to wall berber sp? and we have an area rug down there. We're also setting up our nursery with an 8 x 10 plain white rug that will cover almost the entire room, except for a foot all the way around, and will put an accent rug once we know the sexes of the babies.

I've done exactly this in front of the changing table and crib. It looks fine.

  • We have a large throw rug on top of our carpet. We bought it when we were in our old apartment to cover a large stain that was there when we moved in. Now we just have it there to add more color to the room. I think rugs on carpet is fine.
  • I say nay, because I *always* trip on rugs on top of rugs.

  • We had a lime green shag rug in DS's old room and he really liked to lay on it and play.  The only reason we don't have it now is his new room doesn't have enough room.
